i know people like to clown on this place for some of the absurd behavior witnessed on here but it really doesn’t hold a candle to tiktok, where some random guy with a large following is claiming that i stole “abolish ICE” from him, and that no one had said it prior to like 2024.

A lot of people are trying to build followers/a brand by telling people that the reason the world doesn't work the way they thought it did is not because they were once children and didn't understand the world but because the world is wrong for not being an imagined nostalgic future
Amazing how many of our problems boil down to “I’m not young anymore so you must die.”
Far-right people have been indulging in nostalgia slop propaganda for a long time; AI just makes it much easier for the average person to create images of these imagined pasts and the range of time periods people on the Right are nostalgic for is vast (Ancient Rome all the way to the early 2000s)

The history of the Tea Party can't be fully written w/o Stewart's tacit support; his brand of politics was failing at least 15 yrs ago; I am a broken record but he got a lot of attention because he was one of the only voices against the Iraq War and everyone has been buying him dinner ever since

It is really hard to convey how much Star Wars broke people's brains on how to sell things to kids and that everything for decades had to have a lot of original fantasy/scifi lore in the hope that it would be the next thing thing that popped and let you retire to a private island by 40
