Oh really? I never got around to watching Dexter but I'll steer clear. The bar is way too high right now.

For some masochistic reason decided to binge-rewatch Six Feet Under. Guess I needed a good cry. Just finished the final episode, and if you've had that experience yourself I'm guessing you know just how not ok I am right now. Absolute gut-wrenching perfection.

Does the news reflect what we die from?
The image presents a comparison of the leading causes of death in the United States for 2023 and the media coverage these causes receive from three news outlets: The New York Times, The Washington Post, and Fox News.

In the footer, it notes the data sources, indicating that the information is based on media mentions from Media Cloud (2025) and death data from the US CDC (2025) and the Global Terrorism Index, with a clarification that values are normalized to sum to 100%.

After increasing spending to $134,000 per student (!!!) and facing retention problems, the New College of Florida is apparently having discussions about privatization or closure after DeSantis leaves office.
Spending Soars, Rankings Fall at New College of Florida
Student outcomes and rankings are slipping at the liberal arts college while spending is up. Critics believe the college is at risk of implosion, and some are calling for privatization.

Having a nostalgic day remembering all the amazing dogs I’ve shared my life with. I really wish I could just have one more day with each of them. Of course this in no way diminishes my love for this smokeshow. Look at those “come hither” eyes. A world class leisure-pup. ❤️

I love Annie.

This is Annie. She is a dental therapy dog. Her job is to help patients experiencing anxiety by providing emotional support. While dentists go through years of schooling to treat patients Annie is able to lower their blood pressure and reduce anxiety just by being there. 14/10 (TT: funny.bunny9215)

What really makes this the sweetest is the occasional soft sighs, but this photo will have to do.

I am going to very gently place this here, as I know it can be a touchy subject. But this is something I think about a lot as an academia-adjacent researcher who really, really needs “lazy and unproductive” downtime to function effectively.

In academia, excellence appears to come with a price tag. Stresses often normalise certain behaviours such as workaholism. In this week's blog, Katherine Villavicencio writes about the effects of workaholism in academic life, and suggests us: forget the price tag! blogs.egu.eu/divisions/gd...
The hidden effects of academic excellence: workaholism in Academia
Years have passed since I started my academic career, and I have come to realise that, in a cademia, excellence appears to come with a price tag . Stress and pressure have become commonplace for acade...

Fun fact: if you see a tornado & it doesn't have a warning on it (esp on a day when everything looks like shit on radar), the correct course of action is to CALL YOUR NWS OFFICE & TELL THEM. Instead, what this reporter did was follow tornado, then tag (the wrong) NWS office on X well after the fact.
