I only felt like crying once today, so that's something??? That said, I know that I'm one of over one million federal employees who are working without pay. Around 750k are in a furlough status (barred from work, not being paid). It's shit for a lot of people and I'm trying to remember that.

It occurred to me just now that, per rumint, there is a nonzero chance that people are getting fired during this whole mess. Therefore, as I am an intern still and thus non-essential, there is a nonzero chance that I could be fired.
I'm kind of zen about it. No matter what happens, I'll be okay.

People once again need to internalize that "generative AI" is a small subset of machine learning, that machine learning is a critical tool that you cannot run a site without past a certain volume Bluesky has long since exceeded, and that it is FAR more reliable than user reporting.

A little-known part of Jane Goodall’s legacy is that she helped place Roots + Shoots chapters inside jails in the U.S. and Italy. Some of the participants went on post-incarceration to careers in environmental protection. I met her in 2015 at the Boulder jail—still my all-time favorite assignment.

Asked about why Link had to contact Bluesky to ask what had happened to his account rather than receiving a notice, Paul Frazee, the service's CTO, said that it was "unfortunate," and that Bluesky needed to finish adding a feature to let users of external PDSes know if they have been banned by Bluesky labelers.
