The news media *in particular* needs to remember this and report on them accordingly instead of like some royal edict that becomes objective reality before the ink dries.
It's critical for everyone to remember what an Executive Order is. It is the President communicating orders to members of the executive branch. Policies to pursue, actions to take, etc. They are not laws. They are not close to being laws. They are formalized memos to employees. That's all.

Trump wasn’t involved, couldn’t have known, isn’t at fault for the awful Ukraine plan negotiated by his envoy, VP, and son in law?

He’s the president! And the plan fits his longrunning Putin-sympathetic stance!

I second @phillipspobrien.bsky.social. Making excuses for Trump is insane and harmful.
Just sent out this free piece. When the stories of the 28-point plan were first written, too many people went into overdrive to try and make excuses for Trump (He was not informed! He was not involved!). open.substack.com/pub/phillips...

Dear America,

You know how I know you don’t know how to run the whole government and you need experts to do most of it for you? I can’t even get a handful of people in the entire country to *read their municipal budget.* And that’s fine, until we let morons carve up your government.

Yep, that pretty much sums it up.
All DOGE accomplished was purging critical government staff, handing private data to outsiders, and sentencing thousands in developing countries to death by gutting USAID.

I don’t say this lightly: if there were any justice in this world, the people responsible for this devastation would be in jail

Not sure if it's journalistic best practice to frame "proof of involvement in a decades-long ring of powerful child rapists" as "the greatest challenge to his legacy."

Unless you're trying to actively help him overcome it, I think it should rightly be framed as the final word on his legacy.

This is bizarre. Like the editor of the guardian or mail or any other paper complaining repeatedly about the front page lead they decided to run with.

Very good example of what's wrong with broadcast news - they've given up deciding for themselves what is or isn't news and what the priorities are
It’s a sign of how insane the news cycle is these days that this historic failure of government policy got just one day of news coverage this week.

Not saying that’s right or wrong, but it’s astonishing how quickly the agenda moves on these days.
BREAKING: UK’s response to Covid was “too little too late”. Acting faster could have saved 23,000 lives in England according to the public inquiry.

Boris Johnson presided over a “toxic, sexist, chaotic culture” in No10, where rule-breaking seriously undermined public confidence.

DOGE did not fail in any way to accomplish its goals.

Its goals were never efficiency or saving money.

Its goals were to destroy as much of government as possible forever, and to steal data for the Space Nazi.

DOGE is fading away like bank robbery gangs fade away after the robberies are done.

Breaking News: Robert F. Kennedy Jr. said he personally instructed the CDC to abandon its position that vaccines do not cause autism. The move underscores his determination to challenge scientific orthodoxy — in this case, that vaccines save lives — and bend the health department to his will.
