The news media *in particular* needs to remember this and report on them accordingly instead of like some royal edict that becomes objective reality before the ink dries.

It's critical for everyone to remember what an Executive Order is. It is the President communicating orders to members of the executive branch. Policies to pursue, actions to take, etc. They are not laws. They are not close to being laws. They are formalized memos to employees. That's all.

🧵Today, a 9th Circuit panel, including 2 Trump appointees, will hear arguments on whether Trump has unchecked power to deploy troops to U.S. cities. At issue: his attempt to send the National Guard to Portland, despite Judge Immergut (also Trump-appointed) ruling the move “untethered to the facts.”

A lot going on here, but a religion note: DHS Assistant Sec. Tricia McLaughlin refers to Rev. Black as a "pastor" here — using quotation marks.

It's a notable slight against a faith leader's status, as Black is, in fact, an ordained minister of a church operating within the Presbytery of Chicago.
