Realising I'll need to update my draft "MSPs at risk of losing their seats" piece for BBS when I get home to account for change in circumstances of her expected loss

Obviously she was doomed in Alba anyway and was never getting back in but now she's really sealed the deal, RIP to the political career of the person who gave us the finest bit of complete gormlessness, never before seen lack of gorm, total absence of gorm, unparalleled non-gorm in history.

"How would the punters get to them?" absolutely entering my political meme lexicon, thanks Ash
Section of an interview - a real interview in a real paper - with Ash Regan MSP

Asked about concerns her bill could drive prostitution to an unregulated and underground system, Ms Regan said: "There is no basis for any of those assertions.

"If you even think for one second, you cannot possibly drive prostitution underground.

"If you had a lot of women in underground cellars with a locked door, how would the punters get to them?"

The Herald clarified that the point being made was that if someone wants to buy sex, they would simply do so illegally.

Asked if that made sense, Ms Regan said: "No. It does not really make sense whatsoever."

Can't wait to find out why Ash Regan has left Alba but I assume it goes something like "she still employs Chris McEleney, who due to his expulsion is real beefed with Kenny MacAskill, who ALSO obvs beat Regan for leadership and will probs beat her for selection"

Also thinking how annoyed people were that Dragon Age Veilguard didn't have much earlier game choice carryover - lads they were four games deep! The increase in permutations is exponential and unsustainable! You can have direct flow to sequels or you can have meaningful choice, not both, permanently

Or to put it another way: we never thought millions of OUR voters would be denied their fair democratic representation, cries party that supports the Deny Millions of Voters Their Fair Democratic Representation voting system

There is no way that Find Out Now poll is accurate but it is VERY funny and a reminder of how utterly, repugnantly undemocratic Labour and the Conservatives are to have lumbered us with a shit voting system that now risks utterly destroying them. Now the FPTP leopard is eating YOUR faces!
afaulds.bsky.social
D'oh, of course, I somehow forgot about that! Still a very rare occurrence mind you!
afaulds.bsky.social
It's one thing for a >35% Labour party to be howling that *its own preferred voting system* means smaller parties simply need to give up and get behind them, it's another thing sitting on around 20% and furiously denouncing parties on like 15% and 10% as splitters. Everyone's a splitter now babes!
afaulds.bsky.social
More seriously though, here's a major part of recent polling: on average, the Lib Dem + Green share is higher than Labour's. There presumably can't have been a time the non-Labour left/liberal vote total was higher than Labour since the heady days after the emergence of the SDP/Liberal Alliance

The UK is not the US; Green parties are normal, well-established parties, that are distinctly unfavourable to Russia, in much of Europe (plus Canada, Australia and New Zealand).

Extremely relieved the Dolly Parton situation was "she's not dying, she's just Southern"

I am once again asking that any renewed planning permission for the site of the former Anniesland Jobcentre be conditioned on including a direct path from the westbound platform of the station to the Lidl

Extremely on my brand work activity this morning (also I got to go introduce myself to a broadcasting legend and fanboy slightly)

Good morning to this man and his two pet rats only
During the BBC's daytime visit, one resident was seen carrying his two pet rats and screaming insults at ICE agents posted outside the federal building.

"Get back in your pen, pig!" yelled the man, as flannel-wearing bike commuters stopped by to observe the scene.

I would still die for this little man

This btw to me is absolutely *mind boggling*: there were Scottish Greens pointing to (genuine, serious) SNP failings on trans rights and healthcare as part of the final anti-BHA push, but now wanting to buy into a project that has bent over backwards to accommodate and centre a transphobic MP. Odd!
afaulds.bsky.social
I frankly think it's wishful thinking for YP, a Westminster reaction to Westminster conflicts *that can't even draw a line on transphobia*, to do vastly better than that at Holyrood, thinking spurred by moving in self-confirmatory bubbles and fundamentally unserious views of how government works.

We've done "the Non-Green Capital L Left start a new thing months before Holyrood and some senior Greens are convinced that the future is working with them" thing before, in 2016, it was called RISE and it won 0.5% of the vote and sucked so much life from the SSP they sat 2021 out.
afaulds.bsky.social
And crucially the Greens were 115 votes shy of an MSP in every region in 2021; on the notional results for new boundaries they are in fact defending in every region. There are no places they can't win themselves so literally all a newly founded YP would have to offer is "pact us or we fuck you over"
euan.bsky.social
at Westminster the Greens and Your Party have sitting MPs and could potentially coordinate where they target their resources, at Holyrood we’ll both be trying to win list seats in each region, effectively a zero-sum game, as every vote for YP is a vote against the SGP and vice-versa

Like if you're going to go all-in on describing a country as inherently and deeply fascist you might as well site the start of your timespan somewhere in the period where they applied their immense military might to conquering, occupying and brutalising vast numbers of their neighbouring countries
afaulds.bsky.social
Today in "people really will post anything", a take I saw in the wild is that "Japan has been a fascist government since the fall of the Emperor" which, one, feels weird to post-date that claim to the end of WWII and two, this is a country that had constitutionally mandated near-pacifism for decades
