A great read about 2 great people. Working with Carmel back in the day was an incredibly formative experience and I’m lucky to have had the benefit of both of their wisdom and generosity

An (almost) birthday treat to me from me this evening - The Köln Concert Revisited by Scott Flanigan at The Court House Bangor. I never tire of the recording so it’s fascinating to have heard it differently tonight #openhousefesrival

Really good analysis of the "delete old emails to save water" nonsense that's been going around lately.

There are FAR better ways to save water - which people should be doing!

Contra the UK government, please don't delete your old photos and emails to save water
You'd need to delete hundreds of millions of emails to save as much water as fixing your toilet

“The problem with AI chatbots is that they often strip away historical and cultural context, leading users to be confused, alarmed, or, in the worst cases, misled in harmful ways.”

This is the core of it. In the 20th century, verification happened inside institutions.
Now, it has to happen in us.
A short thread on what that shift really means, and why it has to start in schools. 🧵
Who should do the fact checks with millions and millions of fake news? The nature of social media itself is the problem. However it probably is impossible to get rid of every social network and revert debates to pre 2010-status.

This. Elitists and gatekeepers can sometimes be the loudest voices about the arts, but the vast majority of artists, performers, and writers are not occupying rarified spaces with expensive master's degrees. They simply have the drive to create, and they work hard.
I'm fervently anti-A.I. but I think it is wildly important that human-made books/illustrations/essays are NEVER talked about/considered a Boutique experience.

Making art is not Boutique, it's as natural as dirt. Don't tell me good soil is exclusive; it's the ground holding us up.

Couldn’t agree more. The writing *is* the thinking.
Why even have a brain, any ideas, any ability to express them, any kind of communication with other people, any desire to solve problems or invent anything, any reason to learn, any use for your eyes or your heart, or any reason to teach or create
