I know it should just roll off me at this point, but I do find it frustrating when a disagreement leads to a block from a colleague (I consider all other historians colleagues). I think we should be allowed to actually have conversations here. Otherwise what's the point.

I feel like I'm being gaslit. When did citing things you haven't read become a thing?
I think this post nails the actual problem, for researchers at least—AI hallucinations would simply not be a problem in academic work if we’d not normalized citation-as-signaling rather than actual engagement—you can only cite a fake paper if you’re not in the habit of reading the papers you cite
Do not cite an academic paper unless you’ve read it

You cannot "combat the dangerousness of the right" by continuing to elevate and legitimate its institutions. In fact, one of the primary ways to "combat the dangerousness of the right" is to say "no, I'm not lending my talents and profile to you; if this is a space for Nazis, it's not one for me"
IMO it's hard to combat the dangerousness of the right by participating in a platform where they aren't present.
I think the best way to explain the X vs Bluesky preference is whether a person thinks the left is more annoying than the right is dangerous.

The reason so many Noah Smiths end up on the X side of that equation is that while the left annoys them personally, the right mostly endangers other people.

Stephen Miller is employing state terror in service of the open goal of shifting the ethnic mix of the country. In numerous ways he's doing this at the expense of public safety.

We spent weeks reporting on Miller's real aims. Here's the result. We hope you'll read:

Mind you, ICE fascists tried to criminally prosecute someone for throwing a sandwich at them. Now, they have ZERO problem repeatedly and heavily pepper spraying peaceful civilians conducting their civic duty of peaceful protest. We call them fascists because they act like fascists.

In...New Orleans
Another guy DHS put on their "worst of the worst" from the NOLA raids is this guy, who DHS breathily touts as having been ticketed for disturbing the peace and peeing in public.

So yeah, the term "serious offenders" will be stretched long past the breaking point, likely to just mean ever arrested.

Texas a&m isn't a university any more
Conservatives ran an op at A&M to create a controversy, then used that controversy as an excuse for a purge. The whole thing is fake.
Former Texas A&M President Mark A. Welsh III wasn’t pushed out over just one incident.

The A&M Board of Regents came to want a more explicitly conservative leader who would shut down controversy before it reared its head.
