As an interdisciplinary scholar, I am reading constantly and yet still I sometimes miss out on great work (related to topics I write about). I just read a great article by @ph-dyke.bsky.social about Lesbians Who Tech!
Even with different google scholar alerts set up and such- I still miss pieces.

I think @sarahjeong.bsky.social said it's because they devalue women's labor and a LOT of this Scary Logistics stuff comes from people who don't understand that basically all of the civic life they enjoy is created with the help of free labor, largely by women.
Tho I will say, in his defense, he's not the first person to be confused by how quickly the romance authors & readers can whip up finely tuned logistics out of nothing. 😂
I mostly just stay off Twitter altogether but after double checking that the Walter Hudson post was still up I ran across this and just had to share so the Romancelandians who bought hand warmers could hear about the PROFESSIONAL GRADE LOGISTICS.

Reluctant to reproduce the image, but it’s a story worth reading.

The reason fascists love gen ai is that it’s an ideal tool for visually perpetuating the white supremacist imaginary.

In our conservative estimate, 41 percent of Grok’s images — or 1.8 million — were sexualized depictions of women. Separately, CCDH analyzed how many were sexualized images across genders and ages. Their findings: an estimated 3 million images, including more than 23,000 of children.

Reminiscent of Teddy Roosevelt's fear that with nowhere further west to expand on the American continent that masculinity would be in danger

(and part of this was the motivation to create more national parks where men could remain "real men")
❌ Intl relations ppl: Greenland is about Arctic security

❌Political economy ppl: Greenland is about critical minerals & economic security

“The affordances of AI systems have the effect of eroding expertise, short-circuiting decision-making, + isolating people from each other. These systems are anathema to the kind of evolution, transparency, cooperation, + accountability that give vital institutions their purpose and sustainability.”

I watched this last night.

The top two women's skaters in the US are queer women, with pride flags waving in the audience in support.

That really meant something to me in this moment.

I remember, even within the introduction to AI course I audited in grad school in 2015, I remember the inclusion of some graph like this.

The thing which is maybe surprising in my reread is how quickly it seems like researchers within these field are willing to accept the redefinition in scoping.

for my PhD exams I spent months reading 300+ books in European intellectual history, modern European history, modern Jewish history, medieval Jewish history, and critical theory. There is a huge difference between the style of reading that accommodates this, and having a computer "summarize" books.
