Noticing another uptick in fake AI slop food accounts on here... Some link to fake "blogs" with untested recipes and AI photos, others just follow-farm or spam food feeds. I drop all of these into a mod list if you want a one-stop block list that I update whenever I find new ones.

YES! THIS IS FINALLY OUT!
One of the most fun articles I've written recently, this one is full of food history and death. My favorite! :) You can make purple stewed pears still, but might I recommend the red wine version? It tastes good & it's less deadly.

This stewed pear recipe from Hannah Glasse was published in 1747 but is actually dangerous if followed to a T. Here's why, as well as safer cooking methods.

I mise'd out the stuff to make Old Bay chex mix last night, but don't have rye crisps, my fav part. A friend talked me down, but briefly considered making pumpernickel bagels, then bagel chips, & THEN chex mix. But... moar recipes + moar snacks! 🍜(me: you've already got too many drafts, finish them)

I’m assuming this is another major cause of beer’s woes: “Half of those surveyed said they find it difficult to pay for food.”

If you can’t afford food, you’re not buying $14 six packs of beer.

As the literacy rate declines, you’ll ask yourself why the quality of life continues to deteriorate in ways large and small, and in almost every instance the answer will be: because people stopped reading.

“Yes,” said Frog, reaching for a cookie, “we need will power.”

“What is will power?” asked Toad.

“Will power is trying hard not to do something you really want to do,” said Frog.

6) Art is, in the end, a way of taking a feeling out of my head and trying to jam it into yours from across space and time. There may be some tasty junk food made by AI eventually, but without intention, our appetites to make will be unmet, and we will eventually move on. 6/6

5) AI, which is good at bullshit, may thrive because we have made a society run on bullshit. But in the end I cannot believe we will all become nothing but consumers. People MAKE. An not in the Randian "makers and takers" sense, in the yearning, stretching toward the infinite sense.

4) Ages ago I noted there's just a vast gap in experience, in language, in the very ideas between the very rich, the techbros, and the rest of us, as deep as, say, THE ARRIVAL aliens. We do not use words with the same meaning. Don't even have the same value in and from the human experience

3) The effort is the juice! The effort is the high! Mastery of a skill is an unparalleled buzz. "Having written" is nice yes, we all joke about that, but *the making is the pleasure*. Men who've never experienced that, trying to steal it because ironically *they do not know its value*, is a sin.

2) That adrenaline dump, the release when you're done, or where I was today, looking at my watch, thinking I was running out of time but only an hour had passed, in complete flow state, just hacking away at sentences, solving problems, and we both said: "Why would you give that up?"

I said it before, will say it again -- generative AI fetishizes "ideas" while sneering at effort, execution, and education. That, despite Gen-AI being built on and out of other people's effort, execution and education.
A.I. and the Fetishization Of Ideas
In writing and in dispensing my (very dubious, probably shady) writing advice, I am often keen to note that ideas are bullshit. Most writers treat them like precious gems when really, ideas are lik…

ICE trying to ORDER a church to REMOVE A NATIVITY SCENE is one of the most astonishing First Amendment violations I've seen in ever
ICE’s acting director ordered a Boston Catholic parish to tear down its Advent Nativity scene—stripped of baby Jesus and branded with the message “ICE WAS HERE.” The parish priest is refusing, citing he pope’s call to stand with migrants. It's another chapter in Kristi Noem's war on Christians.
“ICE Was Here”: Pope Leo-Inspired Nativity Scene Sparks MAGA Outrage
A Nativity scene missing Jesus — and marked with an “ICE was here” sign — has triggered cries of “politicizing Christmas.” The parish priest says he’s answering Pope Leo's call to welcome stranger.

Sharing in part so I can find this again... Bacon buns are soooo good. When I lived down there I used to bike to a Bridgeport bakery to pick some up on the weekends on my way to work, but they always sold out so fast (on the days they made them). When I could get some it was a good day though!
