Last night I said, "I wonder what Trump is going to say about it" and like... I guess I could have predicted "He got murdered because he is obsessed with me" had I thought about it for a minute longer.

This is what happens when the FBI is run by two right-wing conspiracy theorist podcasters who spent the last 11 months purging almost anyone with institutional knowledge from the bureau. They're going to keep fucking this kind of thing up.

Extraordinary courage from Ahmed al Ahmed, a Muslim, 43-year-old father of two, who bravely risked his life to save his neighbors celebrating Hanukkah.

Praying for his full & speedy recovery.

And so deeply inspired by his example.

Once in a while you’re in a room with a bunch of new, lovely, nourishing people and just being with them lifts you up and goddamn this happens pretty regularly in Los Angeles and I am so grateful for this.

That feeling when you’re reading some really cooking feminist theory and you’re like holy shit right on but then have a jolt of panic before googling “is so and so a TERF?”

I love Mark, Mark’s work, and all pro physical media sentiment, but I don’t know that it’s my job to search DVD player prices for people. But yeah, you can get a DVD player for cheap.
A (quite) young movie lover said to me recently, "Not everybody can afford a DVD player," and I said "How much do you think a DVD player costs?"

He said, "I don't know, like $500?"

Those of us who advocate physical media are maybe not doing the best job of messaging.

this is a good article and i agree with the conceit that water isn't the central issue. what's frustrating is that POWER is. data centers weren't built yesterday and LLM data centers aren't FUNDAMENTALLY different from existing data centers in terms of consumption and e-waste. there is a fantastic
new from me: are data centers going to wipe out water supplies? how much water does ChatGPT really use? and what's going on with that big correction in Empire of AI?

i went long on the conversation around AI and water, and how it's actually about what we want resources to be used for:
You’re Thinking About AI and Water All Wrong
Fears about AI data centers’ water use have exploded. Experts say the reality is far more complicated than people think.
