I’ve gotten to a point with doing Duolingo for chess that I no longer consider myself someone who is even mildly good at chess. And this happened way sooner than I would have hoped.

Also Alberta conservative voters: *elect a Premier who crossed the floor when she was leader of the official opposition, & has a Chief of Staff who - as an MLA - crossed the floor so many times we named him “Roomba Rob”.

Did not one think to remind Carney that if he really needed to get some money back in the government’s pockets he could just tax the rich?

It is amazing how quickly this government is adopting AI and cutting staff. Remember when they decided to try and modernize and automate payroll and cut staff using the Phoenix Pay System nine years ago and nearly half of the public service wasn’t paid properly and it cost billions to fix?
Ending the emissions cap, cutting tens of thousands of public sector jobs, but funding AI with $925 million. This is a joke

At the end of the day I'm not sure how much difference it makes. But it is striking to put out a budget that axes a luxury tax on yachts and adds a co-pay for refugee claimants accessing drugs and dental care.

Canada budget update: A $2.7bn cut to international assistance over 5 years, or about 10-12% of the budget. Particularly focusing on global health, which is worrying because it's a core Canadian priority

Not sure we need a resurgence of polio on top of everything, but what do I know
What I'm looking for in the Canadian federal budget: Development

- Canada's budget for international stuff is complex. There's the International Assistance Envelope, OECD-measured ODA, plus stuff that falls under Canada's own Act. Plus provincial spending. They all overlap

I was a coms staffer at PSAC when the Harper government slashed the public service — a miserable time for everyone. All it led to was layoffs, followed by the fed govt hiring more temps and expensive consultants. And then eventually hiring back even more people. It takes humans to run a country 🤷‍♀️

I feel the need to tell anyone who is apprehensive about getting one that I had my first mammogram today and it was a lot less scary than I expected and didn’t hurt like I feared it would. Take the leap and book it if you have been putting it off like I did.

Today is the Feast Day of St. Francis. The Prayer of St. Francis (Make Me a Channel of Your Peace) is one of my favorite prayers. It’s a great guidepost for how to be a Christian. And it’s 100% the opposite of the “Christian” nationalism we see in our country these days.

the post office is a public service. it doesn’t need to make money. public transit doesn’t need to make money. the library doesn’t need to make money. some things exist for the public good and we desperately need lawmakers to stop thinking about them in terms of capitalism. these are not businesses.

I am begging Canadians to understand that Canada Post, like public transit, should not be a business - it's a service.

Canada Post is a lifeline for rural, remote and Northern communities and overall, we need to re-evaluate why people think they "need" random shit delivered ASAP.
The government is reducing service standards and Canada Post’s biggest advantage: its nationwide network.

This plan is about cutting back the postal service instead of investing to give it new revenue tools through things like postal banking. It’s shameful.
