Thanks!! I think I was going less for scared, more overwhelmed/anxious by everything Doopliss gets himself (and everyone else) into. Plus he gave away Doopliss's secret and doesn't feel great about that

SIMON: I don't think Al can remotely challenge what writers do at a fundamentally creative level.

I played this for the first time recently. As someone who grew up with SMK, I liked it well enough. You can definitely feel Intelligent Systems' unique and creative take on the Mario world through it, including the outright Paper Mario reference!

My first memory is from my second birthday... But much like this Christmas, I only remember some specific vivid moments and images and the really broad strokes of how I felt at the time! Not a lot of details.

Little did he know he had been actually incapacitated for so long, not just lying low! Cranky probably thought (/worried??) he might be dead... I'm sure he was relieved when those bananas went missing! We all know those two are actually close!!

Basically, he ended up being right for the wrong reasons.
I feel like at some point Cranky learned that K. Rool did go on his own underground expedition, so he probably assumed that's where he had been hiding out, re-establishing himself and waiting to strike again.

I think all the hoard disappeared without warning and Cranky made some assumptions.
In reality, if it was the actual normal bananas that were stolen, Void probably took them to feed himself and the other two on their long journey underground.

And because I don't actually revisit it that much, unlike some other games I grew up with, nostalgia actually does hit me hard when I see references or hear remixed music from this game.

The bright colors and Yoshi were super captivating for me at that age, and even if I couldn't get very far, I could replay the early levels over and over, farming lives for my parents and playing around with the power-ups.
I owe this game a lot and it's why I'll always be a Mario fan.

What I got along with my SNES on Christmas morning when I was three years old (the game had already been out for a few years). I don't actually revisit it much - it's been over a decade since I've done a full playthrough - but it's why I'm talking with you about this stuff today.
