Right now there's a petition in Australia to establish a law that would prevent organizations like "Collective Shout" from forming harassment campaigns. This is only for Australians to sign, but it's also encouraged for others to share the petition. #SaveSpeech

We ask for this due to rising concern that non-profit organisations, or otherwise, have been and have successfully pressured Australian and global companies into refusing service to certain groups of people, including people of sexual identity, LGBTQ+ groups. I saw an infographic a couple years ago about how to remove source identifiers from links and why it's important, but I can't find it again and too many people I know are sending me links with them so here's an infographic straight from the oven

This is followed by a couple example urls, with a red square highlighting the sections with source identifiers. The rest of the text is as follows:

Source identifiers are used to track your activity on a site. Where you came from, what device you use, and even who you talk to. Whether it's written clearly in the url or tied to a random string of characters, it's assigned to your activity.

When you send a link containing a source identifier to somebody and they click it, it signals to the website that you two are connected. And that data goes right back to the website operators, and thus their advertisers.

Whenever you select "share" or "copy link" on a social app or website, it creates a link like this. If you give even the smallest shit about online privacy, it's important to remove them. Everything after the "?" symbol can be removed without issue, especially sections starting with "si=" or "utm_source="

Ana Valens here. Been covering this issue for nearly a decade, and I'm blown away at the level of visibility this problem is getting. Makes me want to cry. I never imagined we'd be talking about this kind of censorship so openly with so many allies and advocates.
Just a couple questions for you all.
1. Segueing right from what I wrote: There's been such an enormous public response to this kind of paypro censorship. Does this feel a bit unprecedented? Do you think something is shifting in the public's perception on the censorship of adult content? Of platform + paypro censorship?
2. We've seen sustained call, writing, and social media advocacy campaigns for the past couple weeks. What other steps do you believe concerned activists, organizers, and customers should take? What's next? 3. Financial censorship is very, very complicated. A lot of people are learning in real-time that purchasing a video game is more complex than "using your Visa card to take money out of your bank." But now that they know how many aspects of financial companies are, well, censorious, it seems like people want the system to change. Do you think there are potential steps to change things in the U.S.? Through the legal system, legislation, or even an executive order?

Thanks, Ana. I am certainly excited about the breadth and depth of the response, but I'm not sure if it's entirely unprecedented. The ACLU and others led similar campaign in defense of processors' efforts to de-platform sex workers, and a related petition (also on sex workers and payment processors) garnered tens of thousands of signatures. Moreover, we have historically seen online communities like artists and gamers mobilize quickly in response to threats, as seen in recent activism around net neutrality and (for those who remember) SOPA/PIPA.
