What’s the word where you’re from that, when pronounced exactly as it looks, identifies a tourist immediately?

you'd think a prominent news outlet like the New York Times might mention that "antifa" isn't an actual organization in a long story about antifa, but nope!

and the subhead helps props up a false claim this professor was up to something seedy as something up for debate
NYT headline: "Rutgers Expert on Antifa Tries to Flee to Spain After Death Threats"

subheadline: "Mark Bray was teaching courses on antifascism. Turning Point USA accused him of belonging to antifa, which he denies. His flight to Spain was canceled abruptly on Wednesday night."

As a follow-up my feed has now entered the realm of young, lecturing white men calling themselves menopause wellness leaders and that sector of content can fuck all the way off. Read the room, lads.

That thing where you click on one FB ad for pharma-grade perimenopausal vitamins and your feed devolves entirely into science-denying trad wives telling me to eat cow hearts or with a checklist to embrace my divine feminine yoni wisdom or whatever is a fucking nightmare.

In the name of journalism accuracy today I had occasion to research giraffe penises. Thank you no further questions.

BUT, on the flip side, I am loving seeing groups of girls just going to homecoming together and having a date or not not being a prerequisite for going out and having fun. Love to see it.

If it’s a photo of a large group and someone is crouching to make sure everyone is seen, fine! Plus teen years are awkward and as someone who was 5’10” by 14 being a tall teen girl is super awkward and I get it. But I have seen lots of pics this weekend of 2-5 girls all just… crouching like by rote.

Parents: this homecoming season is an awesome time to yell STAND TALL AND TAKE UP SPACE, HONEY if your daughter (especially your tall daughter!) automatically goes into “sorority squat” mode in photos to make herself smaller. She can do whatever she wants but just saying it’s an opportunity.

Censorship is so 1984. Read for your rights.

Today kicks off #BannedBooksWeek, and this year's theme reminds us that the right to read belongs to all of us, that censorship has no place in contemporary society, and that we must defend our rights.

Point being, precision counts in very significant ways right now. Especially if you are complaining about the actions of the people in a place, name *those carrying out* the actions very precisely so as not to a) erase the work of activist opposition and b) give that group’s action more normalcy.

Similarly, describing everyone in a blue state or red state as an ideological monolith because that’s the way the majority voted erases the grassroots work of those in the voter minority. We might say “Alabama republicans” instead of “southerners,” for example.

To say “the French did XYZ” frames all of that country as if in ideological lockstep and erases the work of any domestic opposition to the move. One might say “the US did XYZ military thing” or “the President did XYZ” but would likely never say “Americans” did it. We know better.

Responsible information-sharing tip: precision is important so when sharing military or political news concerning groups of people, so be mindful to use phrasing to describe those carrying out the action as, say, “the French *military* did XYZ” instead if “the *French* did XYZ”

After a standoff, I escorted the big spider out of my home in the middle of the night via broom. Which also means I definitely was just on my bldg security cameras aggressively jabbing/shaking a broom around outside while trying to get said spider off of said broom. Here for all rumors that starts.

Sweet it’s time for my quarterly pharmacy fight in which I remind them I’m severely allergic to an inactive ingredient in the generic drug and that’s why my doctor puts a “dispense as written” order on the Rx. This time the pharmacist told me their computer system “usually removes” those orders.
