When we take the bait and engage in US culture war shit here in Aotearoa, this is what we're inviting. The COVID cookers already have an alter-culture relying on conspiracy and hate and in a weeks time we'll find out how many of them were elected to local councils.
A MAGA teenager was spurned by a teen girl so he sent pizza to her home to intimidate her. The police ignored it.

Then, he saw she mocked Charlie Kirk so he murdered her and her friend by ramming his truck into them at 70mph while they were riding their bikes.

He's now charged with murder.

Winston blaming the NZ Greens for his broken window for standing along side people he deems as inciting harm against him… Dude legit got into parliament by aligning himself with violent cookers who hung a noose up for JA, defecated on beehive grounds & set fire to a kids playground. #nzpol #Winston
I got mine on Monday, tho I'm in Aotearoa New Zealand. To be honest, I'm only in it for the antifa super soldier nanobots.

I don’t think I’ve ever met a more hectic reader than myself. I started reading 14 books in the past two months and just started three more in the past two days. Have I finished reading any of them? No. Am I confused and trying to read them all at the same time? You bet.

Remember: fascists survive via their tough strongman aesthetic.

Undermine it.

They’re small, pathetic cowards — too afraid to stand up to Donald Trump and Netanyahu…

Let’s make sure everyone knows that these guys are shaking in their boots, they’ve no bravery or spine

Rather than permitting the Trump administration to frighten us out of resisting, we must understand this broad, vague, and performative executive order as an effort to intimidate.

It should catalyze us into urgent organizing, not paralyze us.

Only collective action can keep us safe and free.

@jamesstout.bsky.social sits down with Frances to hear firsthand what it is like for families of people in the asylum system right now and how even U.S. citizens can have their families torn apart by the Trump administration’s anti-asylum policies.

I've always loved physical media because it meant I wasn't tied to or dependent on a streaming service. No internet? I still have every (console) game, movie and CD I've ever bought.
Used bookstores have TONS of media right now because so many people have switched to streaming in the past 10 years.
Take that money you’re saving every month on cancelling Spotify, Disney+, HBO, etc., & (after buying a @pbs.org Passport, natch) & go to a used book/media store and buy all the movies you watch on repeat (you know you only watch, like, 10 movies) on dvd/bluray. Bonus: no $ goes to fascist media cos
Subscription-based services actively make all entertainment industries worse

We should return to CDs, cartridges and pay-per-view
The cover alone secures my pre-order!

Becoming increasingly clear we’re gonna have to build a parallel infrastructure for all the media we really love. The reason all of this is happening under the color of law is hyperconsolidation, dissent being traded straight up for merger approval, or fear of harassment.

Posting a criticism of Charlie Kirk - much less noting something outrageous he himself said - is not “celebrating” his murder. Nor is it condoning his murder. It is simply saying that his political career and legacy are not something to be celebrated. And that is not the same thing at all.

"I don't care that he's dead."
"He's not a hero."
"He's a scumbag."
"He shouldn't be celebrated."

No, no. I'm not saying that about Charlie Kirk. Charlie Kirk said that about George Floyd.

Just in case anyone's interested in what he thought was fair to say about someone who was killed on camera.

Almost none of my students knew about the Minnesota assassinations. Zero of them knew about the CDC attack.
reposting with alt text because this feels incredibly significant. the right-wing disinfo machine means a lot of the people grieving Charlie Kirk never heard any of the things he said that would have tarnished his brand as Guy Who Just Wants to Have Dialogue Across the Aisle

The Nation pulls NO punches, from @espiers.bsky.social

"There's no requirement to take part in this whitewashing campaign. Refusing to join in doesn’t make anyone a bad person. It’s a choice to write an obituary that begins “Joseph Goebbels was a gifted marketer and loving father to six children.”
