Let me be the first Trump non-bootlicker to say, if this peace plan for the middle east actually works then give him the Nobel prize. He may be a disaster for the rest of the world, but frankly it's a miracle anyone could possibly sort out this conflict (ofc it's US diplomats and not actually Trump)

£122m in extra cash for Rachel Reeves just before the budget might well come in handy!

If Israel participates in next year's Eurovision then Spain will boycott it. If they don't then Germany and Italy will boycott it. The EBU simply cannot win.

[me, a journalist who spends all day every day on a social media app where the discovery algorithm is personally controlled by its owner, captain birdseye] you know, a lot of people are talking about fish fingers, we should probably cover that

Heads up #Eurovision fans - the BBC have announced they will no longer offer phone votes! This seems like it was always the plan, but particularly interesting considering the furore around the last few contests and the public vote.

Whilst Polanski is clearly an excellent communicator, and the Greens were never going to make a different choice, this probably doesn't help the Greens in the long run because yet again the left are going down the purist route - putting off soft left voters who weren't so happy with Labour.

Why am I getting clearing ads all over social media? I'm 40 and got my degree ages ago. What did I click to make the algorithm think I just got my A Level results?!

Very interesting. Shows why all of us should be getting our news from multiple sources, and how easy it is to manipulate people who don't.
Different ways of telling the same story, from positive to negative

Violent crime is falling while digital scams quietly cost millions. So why are *certain* politicians so intent on making us afraid to go outside?

I would ban Christmas falling on a Thursday. Categorically the worst day of the week for it to fall on. You basically have to take off 4 days around it so you don't go mad. Mon 22 to Wed 24 Dec, and Friday 2 Jan - but that's too long a break anyway.

IMHO Christmas should always be on a Monday.

Love to see all the replies to this leaning in on tropes of how social media worked a decade ago, showing they are even further behind the times than the government comms team ... which is saying something!
🚨 EXC: No10 will host up to 90 online creators this week as part of a wider strategy embedding influencers into government comms

Oh to be able to hear the thoughts of the Starmers here. Their faces look like they're suffering from last night's particularly hot chilli con carne, and it would be preferable if they shit themselves right now than listen to anymore of this nonsense!
asked a question about a possible ceasefire in Gaza, Trump ends up ranting about "nuclear dust"

Well, as a sex educator, I can tell you there are safe ways to do it but you need to have been taught in a safe environment, and next to nobody will have been. Yet again this shows why we should have comprehensive sex education that includes the unreality of porn and why you shouldn't just copy it.

All the more bizarre that Reform is trying to create DOGEs for the councils they won, and somehow believe that's how they'll hold onto the councils next time. Populism is at least supposed to be popular!
Meanwhile Musk’s favourability has followed a similar, if less dramatic, pattern. His approval with Reform voters has dropped considerably, part of this will be cohort effects but part changing perceptions.

3) Secondly, and of greater consequence, they get the plural of octopus wrong! "Octopus" as eni fule kno (& as @sturdyalex.bsky.social will attest) ὀκτώπους is a Greek word and (as Fowler puts it) "The only acceptable plural in English is octopuses. Octopi is misconceived, and octopodes pedantic."

Globally the left has unfortunately abandoned young men, in the same way that the right has abandoned young women. They both believe they will win elections by squeezing out every vote from the demographic that supports them, when in reality they're making a rod for their own back.
