Getting Reddit ads for Mensa. Not sure whether to be complemented that the algorithm thinks I'm smart, or insulted that it thinks I'm the sort of weirdo who cares about their IQ (I have a staggeringly low IQ btw).

I especially recommend this for people fleeing dysfunctional higher ed systems in the U.S. and UK. Things seem to run (comparatively) well here.

We're hiring at Umeå. The position is full professor - but don't be intimidated by the professor title - you don't have to be fancy to apply. I'd say anyone with a potentially tenureable CV has a shot (obviously fanciness is a bonus). Area is pretty open. For details see ad below:

Has anybody ever come up with a remotely compelling response to Enoch's "Schmagency" argument?

I remember Ted Sider's logic book getting a lot of hate from logicians when it came out. Can anyone remember why people hated it so much?

philjobs.org/job/show/28634 Come work at Umeå. Unlike much of the world I THINK Sweden will still have universities at least for the duration of this postdoc:
Postdoctoral fellow in philosophy with a focus on ethics in teacher education , Umeå University - PhilJobs:JFP Postdoctoral fellow in philosophy with a focus on ethics in teacher education , Umeå ...

People love to talk about "work-life balance," but what if the minute you stop working you enter a never-ending anxiety spiral that only ends when you start distracting yourself with work again? What then, wokescolds?

7 year old: Why are you biting your finger?
Me: I don't know.
7 Year old: Did you not know you were doing it?
Me: Yea I knew I was doing it.
7 year old: Daddy, that makes no sense.

I think my child has been reading Anscombe.

We often venerate philosophical contributions that develop clear, systematic, and original arguments for their conclusions. Are there any recent examples of philosophical work that excels instead through creative and insightful synthesis of many different ideas?

Looking for logic textbook recommendations - self study for a smart masters student who has not done any logic before and just needs the basics. I used Tomassi as an undergrad this is about the right level, but too long and slow for these purposes. Any ideas?

TIL I'm not bright enough to get onto the philosophy PhD programme at Stockholm Uni (probably true tbh).
There's no requirement to learn Swedish, although foreign students who make the effort often find themselves more at home. The good news is that it's easy: anyone bright enough to get one of these positions can learn functional Swedish in 3–6 months.

249 is rookie numbers.
Your Academic 2024 Wrapped is here:
- You downloaded 249 article PDFs onto your desktop, but only read 3 of them
- Your reviews were late by an average of 6 days
- You attended 48 meetings that should've been an email
- You wrote the word "lacuna" 11 times
- You should've been writing more

Agree. When I hear people complain about how bad philosophical writing is I wonder if they have ever read anything produced in other disciplines (pop-sci doesn't count).
Hot take: A lot of philosophical writing is actually pretty great. More stylish than the sciences, clearer and more efficient and than literary non-fiction (and many humanities disciplines).

I want to understand Kant well enough to be able to vaguely understand writers in the 'Post-Kantien European Tradition'. What should I read?

(I tried just reading Kant - it didn't work - he says himself that he's a shit writer in need of a competent expositor).
