Heard joke once: Man goes to doctor. Says “It hurts when I do this.” Doctor says “Treatment is simple. Don’t do this.” Man bursts into tears.

“But Doctor, I *am* do this.”

Good joke. Everybody laugh. Roll on snare drum. Curtains.

An administrative warrant is signed by ICE, not a judge. Without a signed judicial warrant, agents do not have the right to enter your home.

You have the right to ask to see the warrant.

You have the right to refuse entry without one.

Okay so when you try to update we didn’t start the fire to include the burger wars, please note (unlike fallout boy) that the events are in chronological order it’s not just saying random things! It is saying random things in order and with a meter
Everyone remembers where they were when the war on protein began.

Naive question from an outsider:

If (for example) Claude Code is so good, why aren't we seeing more open source developments? Like, why isn't OpenTTD or whatever accelerated? Why isn't there an open source alternative to Duolingo?

Or is it good only for personalized tasks?

Isildur would not have seen it coming, because Elrond didn’t seem like the “shove you from behind” type
January 12, 2026 at 4:09 PM
If Elrond really wanted to defeat Sauron he would have just shoved isildur off the ledge when they were in mt doom and saved everyone a lot of drama
elrond talks a lot of shit about isildur and men in general for a guy who didn’t actually have to contend directly with sauron’s will while in the seat of his power. not obvious to me that he would’ve cast the ring into the fire either! like maybe a take beat and humble yourself pal

Just treat them the right way, though; it’s still better to know the thing?

Like you have to get weird cases with psychic police or something before you unlearning is a moral good
January 12, 2026 at 2:51 PM
Maybe the rules of etiquette require me to *pretend* not to know things that I learned via the wrong channels or whatever, but morality probably overrides that and requires me to keep track of what i actually know to navigate the world correctly or like not seat people in a fight next to each other

A lot of journalists are way too proud of asking the emperor what he thinks of his new clothes instead of reporting that the emperor is firing people for telling him he is naked and created a private army to murder people who disagree with him

The cure for this is sonic adventure 2 + chao garden
when i was a kid i could spend a whole afternoon playing something like Sonic 3D Blast. and if i try and play it now i just think "why am i doing this. one day i am going to die".

Donald Trump and his father were busted by the DOJ for refusing to rent to Black people. They were guilty but they avoided responsibility by aggressively litigating. It was one of the formative experiences of his life.

Sometimes I think “maybe it is useful for experienced coders” but then I think “if so, there should be more or better AI built apps” and there aren’t, so…”
January 12, 2026 at 10:36 AM
AI boosters love to pretend that critics can avoid interacting with AI entirely as though this stuff isn’t crammed into every single website or app for no fucking reason and I don’t have repeated chances to address how garbage it is at the things people say it does well.
Lots otherwise smart people learned the term "stochastic parrot" in 2023, gave ChatGPT one try to do their whole job, then committed to years of loudly high-fiving themselves that it didn't immediately do their whole job. The lack of continued curiosity wrapped in motivated reasoning is striking.
