Eh, most sites with non-garbage categorization (esp. pre- User Generated Content) would clearly distinguish "Transsexual/Tranny/Shemale" vs "Transvestite/crossdresser".

It's mostly nowadays with validity and UGC/poor labeling that you see no-HRT John 50 crossdressers under "Trans/transsexual"

"You *must* want bottom surgery" [in order to get HRT/be transsexual] was mostly an inside concern / medical gatekeeping, rather than something that the average normie understands as a definitional requisite for "being a tranny/transsexual"

Tbh even before the 2010s, the mainstream/normie understanding of "Transsexual" didn't generally imply "had bottom surgery".

E.g. your average porn site's "Transsexual" category would include (or actually be even fully dedicated to) "girls with dicks".

That's a big asymmetry in the trans community.

Trans women want to transition, to be women.
But with many transmascs you get sometimes the feeling that they just want to be AFAB/women 2.0

I think the ubiquitous conflation/ambiguity of "transmed" between
- "HRT access should be restricted/gatekept"; and
- "HRT matters, transsexual experiences differ from those of non-transitioners"

caused many trans people to instinctively side with the tumblr-validity side

During peak woke era (2019-2020), every, EVERY Twitter thread about transition/HRT had to have someone always chiming in with "but not everyone transitions!1"

I was onboard when non-transitioning non-binarism still had some androgyny/GNC connotations.

But then "X people don't owe you X" got mainstreamed, and it opened the floodgates for 100% AGAB-typical cis people to "identify" as trans, all while larping as being the uwu oppressed underdog.

The average normie person knows today no more about HRT than they knew in 2014.

Yet everyone and their grandma knows about "pronouns and identities".

Mainstream trans activism is now the activism of the "Words Must Mean Nothing" cis community.

But look at the actual consequences of that kind of activism.
We just imported cis/cis-like people into our movement, which then proceeded to miseducate the public about our needs and experiences.

"Transmedicalism" is now a pointless word, because there's no commonly shared understanding of the term.

I think my fear of cis lesbians and my fear of transmascs stem from the same place, well kinda… no cis lesbian has done… let’s just say *that* to me.

But I think a large part of it is that I understand both groups are involved in online spaces that are heavily infested with TERFs.

"Disney princess" implies "traditionally feminine woman whose life is perfect"

"Barbie" is in many feminist spaces interpreted as "frivolous feminine woman that hasn't read enough radfeminist books"
