Afgelopen nieuwjaarsnacht is de Vondelkerk door een brand grotendeels verwoest. De toren is ingestort, ook het dak kwam naar beneden. Het is niet de eerste keer: in 1904 gaat de toren ook al eens in vlammen op. 1/2

Afgelopen nieuwjaarsnacht is de Vondelkerk door een brand grotendeels verwoest. De toren is ingestort, ook het dak kwam naar beneden. Het is niet de eerste keer: in 1904 gaat de toren ook al eens in vlammen op. 1/2

Op deze tekening van de plattegrond van de #Vondelkerk is goed te zien hoezeer Cuypers heeft gekeken naar Zuid-Duitse of Italiaanse barokke kerken. Neogotisch maar met een barokke inslag. Het is bijna een ovaal. Alles vloeit en draait rondom de centrale koepel. Een meesterwerk.
