Superman won a Harvey Award for best comic adaptation at New York Comic Con!  The award is named after and inspired by the great Harvey Kurtzman, who revolutionized comics and left the world a better – and much wittier place than he found it.  Thanks to everyone at the Harvey Awards for this honor!

"I'll fight till hell freezes over and then I'll cut the ice and fight on" is metal af
Post by user @jamellebouie.net that reads, "from chandra manning's wonderful book "what this cruel war was over"

Nothing made slavery's toxicity more obvious to Union troops than its effect on the fundamental unit of society, the family. For one thing, slave sales separated families. In the Upper Sout, where many Union soldiers were stationed in 1861, about one in three first marriages was broken by sale, and about half of all slave children were separated from at least one parent. With their own eyes, soldiers saw slavery snap bonds between parents and children. The men of the Seventh Wisconsin were awakened by gunshots one November night. The following day, soldiers "learned, and saw the cause of the alarm in the form of two negro women—a mother and a daughter." The pair had fled to Union lines to avoid the proposed sale of the "goodlooking" daughter into the so-called fancy trade, which soldiers viewed as a form of concubinage. Outraged by the plight and moved by the vulnerability of the mother and daughter, "every private in the ranks" cursed "that system which tramples on the honor of man, and makes merchandise of the virtue of women," according to one member of the regiment. When an Iowan encountered a young child about to be sold by her own father, who was also her master, he vowed, "By G-d I'll fight till hell freezes over and then I'll cut the ice and fight on."

And I'm gonna reskeet this as well, because in addition to the previously stated obvious analogy, it reminds me of what happened at the beginning when the "consultant" came in to Brown Book Shop to "analyze the shop's business to keep the business solvent".

in 2011, the president of antifa hired me to give fashion consultancy to the organization. i recommended everyone wear navy suits with tan shoes, dress sneakers, and golf polos with slim chinos. if you arrested everyone today wearing these things, you'd destroy antifa

This. Stop looking for sense or reason in fascists either side of the Atlantic. These are tiny people with tiny ambitions that extend no further than feeding the endless, famished void for validation they have in place of a soul.

Their goal is revenge against every scientist who told them something they didn't want to hear or made them feel inferior by knowing more than they do.

WTF is their goal? Small government means every man for themselves when the next catastrophe hits? What is the point? Government isn’t a business, it’s a service for the people. You’re saving minimal money with these cuts and only hurting literally everyone

one of the most important things to learn, if you're out there doing things:

you don't get to talk about it.

you don't get to brag about it, you don't get to tell your friends, you don't get drinks bought for you in the bar off the story.

it's *always* shut the fuck up friday

Wen should direct more attention to incidents like these because Americans are more likely to respond to brutality to pets than to brutality to human beings.

So there's this Vietnamese logger named Ho Khanh. One day he's out searching for agarwood (aka eaglewood aka Wood of the Gods), a fragrant, resinous wood used in incense & perfume.

Ho Khanh is out in the jungle and finds what seems to be an entrance into an undiscovered cave.

You should be SUPREMELY distrustful of *anyone* who becomes particularly bothered when people are angry that person is being criticized for animal cruelty as opposed to some other supposedly "worse" offense, in language that minimizes said cruelty. They reveal their priorities, and not how they mean

One of the cartoons in my new book 'Physics for Cats' which is out now in the UK, USA, Canada, France and Germany. Order from your local bookshops or online: www.tomgauld.com/
Two beetles on a stick.
One beetle says to the other "Do you ever get the feeling we are being observed by another lifeform"
Zoom out to reveal that they are in a glass case with two scientists studying them.
One scientist says to the other "Do you ever get the feeling we are being observed by another lifeform"
Zoom out into space. Abouard a spaceship, two aliens watch the scientists on a screen.
One alien says to the other "Do you ever get the feeling we are being observed by another lifeform"
The aliens turn to look out at the reader.

Text below the cartoon reads:

When prices were going up under Biden there was a constant deluge of news stories about it because the media did not like Biden and wanted him to lose. Under Trump there is not a constant deluge of news stories about coffee prices because they like Trump and want him to win
