if you're not where you want to be as an artist or entertainer and didn't come from money or an industry family try to remember that it was never an even playing field to begin with and you're probably doing great considering

s/o to everyone from working class backgrounds in the arts and entertainment who clawed their way to where they are without the benefit of family wealth, career experience, or connections

Sometimes it's really telling when someone starts a statement with "obviously" before saying something that is very much not "obviously". You can learn a whole lot about how they see the world that way.

I blink away from my Doctor Who hyperfixation and brilliant friends are volumes into awesome projects like this in the meantime. I love to see it.

So happy this seems to be capturing the warmth and humor these stories have.

I like how the news will be like “while the President claiming Portland was ruled by a giant skeleton named Mr Nibbles is not strictly true, it does speak to the anxiety of many Americans”

This administration definitely would jail the people hiding the little girl in the attic

My first thought was “wow I hope this guy didn’t give out his name because he could absolutely be charged” and yup, he is correct to stay anonymous.

This man’s account is shocking. His neighbors’ situation is shocking. The entire Chicago raid is shocking.
On the other side was a mom and her 7-year-old daughter, pleading for his help.
"I wasn't planning on letting her stay, but I didn't know what the hell was going on," the man said of his Venezuelan migrant neighbors. But he quickly relented. The little girl was inconsolable and hid under his bed.
"I didn't want them to take her," said the man, who didn't want to be named because he fears he'll be targeted by federal authorities for his actions.
"I gave her my bedroom, and I just told her,
'Just stay there. Don't open, don't, shh, just stay quiet," he recalled telling the mom and daughter as he choked back tears.

I've never heard this "primmer" pronunciation a single time before in my life, in my time in academia or my time working in publishing. Ever. And I'm American!
arcbeatle.bsky.social
Americans don't say "primmer" either. I've never heard it said that way in any context academic or professional ever. Which just makes this post baffling.

TFW you paid $1400 to see Beckett’s most famous work without knowing anything about it
One Star Review of Waiting for Godot on Broadway
I recently attended Waiting for Godot on Broadway and spent over $1,400 for two Row C seats (103 and 104). I'm a longtime admirer of Broadway productions and even hold a season pass for Shea's Performing Arts Theatre, so I came in with genuine enthusiasm and high expectations. Unfortunately, this show was unlike anything ! have ever experienced —and not in a good way.
What I encountered was not the artistry, music, or emotional storytelling I usually associate with Broadway, but instead what felt like an endless cycle of nonsensical conversation between characters who seemed trapped in their own madness. I tried-truly tried-to find meaning, symbolism, or even a thread of emotional resonance. I stayed through the first half hoping the second would offer clarity. But by intermission, it was clear: this was a waste of both time and money.
Keanu Reeves is an actor I respect greatly, but I cannot fathom why he would agree to participate in such a disjointed, inaccessible production. His talent was lost in a performance that defied reason rather than provoked insight.
To anyone considering attending: unless you are drawn to highly abstract, nearly incomprehensible theater, I strongly caution you against this show. For the average, educated, thoughtful theatergoer, it is far more frustrating than fulfilling. In my opinion, this was the single most disappointing Broadway experience I've ever had - an unfortunate waste of money and, more importantly, of time.

Its always weird when you are sending out stories for feedback over a few months, and you get one back the people say is their favorite thing you've written in a long time, and your internal reaction is "wait, really, THIS one?" Im not complaining, I'm glad its good, but not what I expected lol

Two women standing in front of a split brown and green background. To the left, in front of the brown background is a blond, white-skinned woman with tattered jeans, a blue and yellow checkered shirt with a dotty patch over the heart area and a big jeweled belt around her waist. Her hair is tied up with a red bow.

To the right, in front of the green background is a tall, brown-skinned woman with a pale-green dress, jagged emerald crown and a golden sceptre with an emerald Z encased in a large O shape. She has two poppies covering her ears, and her hair is dark brown.

That makes sense. My hot take is that a lot of the shifting opinions on her music involve who she has producing the backing tracks. Her different collaborators have pretty wildly different styles.

Taylor Swift is a good lyricist. I remember when that Ryan Adams covered the whole 1989 album and a whoooole lot of folks I knew who hated her work suddenly and begrudgingly admitted it was pretty good. And happened again when Folklore came out. Time will tell her legacy, but she has chops.
