Now also feels like a good time to mention that during WWII women spies would put codes in their knitting (which is essentially a binary system, knit, purl) and cross stitch morse code onto things.
This summer I helped my mom clean out my grandma’s art studio. I ended up leaving with a few of her crochet hooks with the goal of learning how to make a granny square and 5 months later, I finally did. Gotta say, learning to do handwork in this era of mass vomited AI slop feels very, very healing.

We can’t stop fighting, but this morning I’m basking in the knowledge that two out of the three largest cities in the US have socialist mayors. As Kelly says here “we can win.”
There are still a lot of hard times ahead, but remember this moment and what it means: We can win.
