My colleague points out here that possibly one in seven requests to our library now may be assisted by LLMs.

When those point to fictional documents, that's a huge staff time drain. There's often no quick way to check if an undigitized primary source doc exists beyond physically pulling some boxes.

EARTH There are those, including some of your own ancestors, who long for Earth, the distant home of all who live on the Eight Planets. A ship leaves every few years, loaded with people who for whatever reason wish to make the multi decade journey back to Earth, and they are always full. Some yearn to be on their ancestral planet at the sunset of their lives, to feel the warm yellow Sun instead of the cold blue and white of the Sirius twins. Reports say most of the Earth’s surface is now habitable! But even if they can’t get prime Andes, Alps, or Himalayan beachfront, there’s plenty of habitation in the floating arcologies over the planet itself.

People say this a lot and it's a fundamental misunderstanding of the "GPUs" in question.

Server GPUs are not graphics cards as you know them. They won't work in your PC. They have a few other uses but their main strength is computation, number crunching.

When the bubble pops most will end up junk.

I've just checked the RAM I got in July for $269. It's now a thousand dollars. That's nearly a 300% increase in less than six months, and it's going to get worse.

Two weeks ago I said that there were likely millions of uninstalled Blackwell GPUs sitting in warehouses as there is neither the data center capacity nor the power to turn them on. Michael Burry is looking into it and it looks like he’s got evidence I’m right.

He grew up surrounded by his gran's collection and later bought his own after visiting a shop with a friend. "The main selling point for me is the cases," he says. "There's something about really clean cases that I love." Streaming services like Netflix and Disney+ dominate the market but Declan says he values ownership. "It's nice to have something you own instead of paying for subscriptions all the time," he sayS. "If I lost access to streaming tomorrow, I'd still have my favourite movies ready to watch."
