Zohran Mamdani polled +40% on men under 30. So we wasted all that time on all those think pieces about how we need a Joe Rogan for the left, when what we actually needed were *policies* for the left.

Responses to Billie Eilish’s challenge to the billionaires are a reminder that if you’re wealthy you can’t criticise billionaires because you’re a hypocrite and if you’re poor you can’t criticise billionaires because then you’re envious. So, magically, no one is allowed to criticise billionaires.

This is a genuinely fascinating piece of research done by Sky on the sewer previously known as Twitter.

Having been largely off it for a bit over a month, and having jumped on yesterday for a half an hour to search for insane right wing responses to Mamdani’s win, I can’t tell you just how 1/

75 years ago, the ECHR was signed after the horrors of the war.

Today, Nigel Farage and many Westminster politicians want to tear up the laws that protect our basic human rights.

Our rights are not Westminster’s to take away. We will stand firmly against that.

The far right want you to believe that immigration causes an explosion of crime.

It's simply untrue.

Crime has gone down - and crucially, we are a markedly less violent society than we once were.

Here’s Karine Polwart singing Hamish Henderson’s “Freedom Come-All-Ye” in the Italian Chapel, Orkney. The chapel was built & decorated by Italian POWs during WW2 using scraps & reclaimed materials, & is still in use today

Zohran's campaign was his determination to make New York a city everyone can afford to live in. Huge congratulations!

His success will resonate throughout the world. A story where no one is left behind.

It's time to write that story across England & Wales too.

My god this is for real one of the most incredible speeches I’ve ever seen by an elected US politician: ‘And if there is any way to terrify a despot, it is to dismantle the very conditions that allowed him to accumulate power. This not only how we stop Trump, it’s how we stop the next one.’
Mamdani: "We can respond to oligarchy and authoritarianism with the strength it fears, not the appeasement it craves. After all, if anyone can show a nation betrayed by Donald Trump how to defeat him, it is the city that gave rise to him."

It’s encouraging on many levels: New York City didn’t submit to a campaign of flagrant bigotry from disgraced two-time loser Andrew Cuomo, and Americans, particularly young ones, can still be politica...

The oligarchy came out in full force against Zohran Mamdani's fight for a more affordable NYC.

It didn't matter.

Let his victory in the face of Big Money serve as a reminder that people have the power.

As ever... the vast, vast majority of people don't want the hellscape the right is forcing on us. they really are the minority viewpoint. vocal? yes. powerful? unfortunately, yes. But there are so many more people who don't want to live in the world they're trying to make.

We go to sleep in a better country than we woke up in. Thank you to everyone who worked for these coast-to-coast victories, for this utter repudiation of Trumpism, for economic justice and a country for all of us, not for white supremacy.

The Mitchell Library in Glasgow is one of my favorite places to work. I find I write twice as much when I sit in this room. I don't go every day and surely there's no magic formula for work but generally speaking, it helps!

The Jacobite from Fort William to Mallaig crossing Glenfinnan Viaduct.
I stumbled upon this film on Amazon and started watching it just out of curiosity. Despite all the huge Hollywood names, I had never heard of it before. After about 15 minutes, I realised why and had to turn it off. If it wasn't a Dadaist attempt to break the system from within, it was a disaster.
Yesterday we had a good walk from West End to Bellahouston Park, through Partick-Govan Bridge and had lunch at House for An Art Lover. "Just a perfect day." 😊
