I can’t believe this has to be said, but people sharing posts about Epstein and cannibalism are trafficking in a 900-year-old conspiracy about Jews called the Blood Libel.

It’s only in the files bc some nutjob antisemite told the oldest lie in the book to the FBI. No evidence at all.

Her breath quickens.

He draws back the shirt to reveal his bare chest. Three long scars run across it, as if he had been slashed by giant claws.

Yes and no. Some people desperately want change but it's a subconscious desire. I got into debates with the guy I fell in love with & later people in his social circle. Every debate had a strong impact which kept radically changing my worldview.

And sometimes I would ask questions, admit to doubts.
This is the secret to all debate. In-person debate too.

Approximately zero people will admit they are wrong to someone arguing with them about politics. They won’t tell you they changed their mind! But what you say may make them think.
The secret to engaging in social media debate is knowing you will never win anyone over. The best you can hope for is to have people who already agree with tell you you're awesome. You might great a dopamine thrill from the righteousness of your anger! Fine benefits, all. But you will never win.

I saw the Book of Kells display in Dublin while visiting Trinity last year. Really something. Now I'm excited to get this book.
To celebrate SHE IS HERE, I changed my avatar to “Happy Hound,” one of the drawings—all (very!) loosely based on Early Medieval images from the Book of Kells, Lindisfarne Gospels, and Pictish symbol stones—in the book. Along with poems, stories, essays, and a new novella, “Many Things in Dumnet.”

STAR TREK had a deliberate habit of being woke from the start thanks to Dorothy Fontana & etc. I remember listening to the gay creator of tribbles talk about his inspiration for them; David Gerrold is a very affable guy. He also as I recall wrote an unproduced NextGen script meant to tackle AIDS.
A Star Trek show with with men wearing dress, an atypical Klingon in Starfleet, a person with a disability visible and atypical women in positions they typically haven’t had in Trek before?!?!? How dare they?!? How woke!

The Next Generation is wildly woke.

The entire superhero genre was invented to punch Hitler, so keep on punching the modern versions of would-be Hitlers with your heroes, creative peers.

(For those who don't know: two Jewish boys invented Superman to punch Hitler and thus was the superhero genre created.)

in 2023 when I was organizing parents against our archbishop’s transphobic new school guidelines, one dad asked how loud I thought it was prudent for us to be, given how punitive the Archbishop is. I was like “loud enough that all the trans/nb kids at your parish see it” and he was like “…. oh”

After I grew up and became a flaming liberal, I had arguments about all kinds of harmful beliefs my parents held in front of my younger brothers so those kids would know someone gave a shit if they happened to be harmed by one of those beliefs.

And some of them were harmed, but they knew I cared.

agree with this (hah) but also think a particular mistake the left made for a long time online, and still makes to an extent, is failing to understand that the person whose mind you may actually change is the one reading the argument you're having, not the one you're arguing with

I keep staying up late and getting up late like I'm a teenager and it's summer break. As a writer/editor I work best without interruptions, which makes late at night ideal.

But also late at night the horrors of our current dictatorship fall silent for a few hours and I can shut all of it out.

Here's an idea for a law:

Ban detention of children under the age of 5
Ban detention of parents of children under the age of 5

It will fail immediately, which is perhaps something for Democrats to campaign on.
Trump & the Republican Party did this.

Forward this article to any member of Congress who supports funding the incarceration of babies.

Then call — especially Republicans — and get them on record: 202-224-3121

Disclaimer: All of these examples are made up. They never happened ever.
things that are easier to do when you have the place all to yourself… read books. listen to classical music on the good speakers uninterrupted. and for some reason- clean the bathroom down to the grout.

My husband died from cancer after a hard battle. He was surrounded by myself, friends, family when he went.

To be denied that moment and know that your *child* died without you would be deeply traumatic.

I hope there's a Hell, because these sadistic #ICE monsters and #Trump deserve to burn in it.
A child dying of cancer spent her final days fighting to free her wrongfully detained father from ICE custody.

This comes just weeks after a mother from Maryland was denied the right to be at her son’s side as he died from cancer.

Not one dime for this cruelty.
