I think the concept of a large model of human language is basically canonical and would have been developed regardless of circumstances

Some people are drawing an inference that because I'm an EA I'm also a capitalist who believes large private companies should be able to purchase water from utilities, so I'm going to come right out and say that yes to all that.

as most people who have had chronic diseases for a long time could tell you, it's actually really not that hard to become better than your average doctor at understanding some really specific thing if you spend a while studying it
i would love to know what "risks" people are citing when they say that hrt is "unsafe" without medical supervision. do you consult your doctor when you take advil or tylenol?
it's one thing to see cis people propagate fearmongering lies and disinformation, but trans people should not be doing that!

from experience compute access for MLEs is kind of like the hedonic treadmill
before I got my current job I would've killed for my current two-GPU workstation but now it feels mundane. if they gave me a full H100 node it would be the same. truly a vicious cycle

Docker-based code execution sandboxes for LLM reinforcement learning are irritating to set up and slow, so over the weekend I made a small wrapper library around Bubblewrap.
By using a shared read-only root filesystem, it can start an Alpine Linux environment in ~2ms.
