ME: Now Mom, just remember, there's a lot of disinformation and AI in your social feed and your friends' Facebook.
MOM: I know! My friend sent me this crazy post where someone used AI to make an image of a giant frog fighting Army troops!
ME: ... okay, no, that one's ... goddamit, Portland.

An explanation on why the infield fly rule wasn’t called on the first-inning pop up that fell for a hit from umpire supervisor Larry Young, on site at Wrigley, via pool reporter:

Very odd for me to think of a school district that is not unionized but I presume this is not uncommon?

I want to read Murph’s scouting reports so bad
For Murphy, this theory's apotheosis was Dustin Pedroia. Before Pedroia became an American League MVP and two-time World Series champion for the Boston Red Sox, he was a shortstop at Arizona State, listed at 5-foot-9. Recalled Murphy, "I used to tell Pedroia: 'Your height is to your advantage. If the ball goes through your legs, it'll hit you in the cup.""
A couple years ago, Murphy visited the Arizona Fall League to watch some prospects. He found himself smitten with Durbin, then a stocky infielder in the New York Yankees organization. "I'm like, 'Look at that little s—," Murphy said. "I just loved the way he plays”

Grand juries, which defense lawyers have long complained “would indict a ham sandwich,” are consistently saying “no thanks” to these ICE impediment charges, and it Is happening everywhere.

You begin to appreciate why the colonists wrote that requirement into the Constitution: for crap like this.

From a decision science standpoint, one of the best ways to get to the bottom of any situation is to have 8-12 randos show up and talk it through. It really works well the vast majority of the time.

Ah yes, to hear the evidence that was kept out, and to ask the judge if they thought you reached the right verdict, and to be told by the judge that if you thought it through and followed the instructions, then it was the right verdict.

Hope you found it instructive. It is a great process that on balance works very well.

In a meeting today, my friend and colleague Aidan mentioned the lack of Ricks in baseball today. It reminded me about how we’re in a bit of a Jefficit, too. Peak Jeff was 1993. (via @stathead.com): stathead.com/tiny/clLaU

This is a fantastic and well-executed idea.

"The biggest threat to an MLB pitcher’s career is not a career-ending injury—it’s ineffectiveness."

Until I studied this what I didn't realize was how even the best SPs with fringy velo don't have longevity.

I struggled to give you an example of a durable/above-average/successful soft-tossing SP from 2008-2015 who was successful from age 32-36+.

On the Trajekt stuff, @jrodrigues39.bsky.social had a great piece in August about how Trajekt teams have bigger OPS jumps on the first time through the order, and their home OPS on the third turn has the most significant jump www.baseballprospectus.com/news/article...

The Brewers’ Game 2 pitching plan was so detailed it included Quinn Priester warming up as a decoy. Aside from a first inning blip, it went beautifully.

But to win by launching homers? Who could have planned for that?
