(BTW, I say this as someone who has always played my games on PlayStation. Right now, Xbox's biggest issues seem to be Microsoft's fickle steering of the ship to help fund their AI arms race.)

library for a competitive price. Even the "everything is an Xbox" push might make sense in a few years if Microsoft can successfully get that running. Then you essentially have a virtual console whenever you want it for a fraction of the cost. Even PS seem to be laying the groundwork for that. /2

To be somewhat charitable, I think that Xbox's subscription plan does make some strategic sense. Like Phil has said, they lost the most important generation, where everyone built up a digital library on PlayStation. You can't compete with that, so instead, you offer access to a huge digital /1

I have transitioned most of my most important data into cloud infrastructure, thank God, but I feel like between these two incidences, I'm basically starting fresh. :(

This has actually been a terrible year for me for data loss. I have an external SSD that I had a decade and a half of documents and images on, and suddenly it became inaccessible and forced me to reformat it, losing everything (I tried deep scan solutions, it didn't work).

THEY FUCKING BACKED UP THE SSD WITH BARELY ANY DATA ON IT AND IGNORED THE ONE WITH NEARLY 2TB OF DOCUMENTS. FUCK.

Other than some photos, I don't think anything super important got lost that I can't redownload, but FUCKING HELL!!! Absolutely infuriating and pushing me towards a cloud backup...

Context: They suggested a fresh Windows install, which I agreed to, if they would backup my files. They said sure, and are you ok with us installing Windows on your NVME SSD? I said sure, that's my main drive. I had Windows installed on another SSD with barely any data on it...

me at the time. Since playing FF6 earlier this year (which was fantastic), I wanted to give it another shot. I'm liking it a lot more now that I can appreciate how much of a leap it was in terms of presentation. The clever use of FMVs and in-game models is always delightful to witness.

With my PC still out of commission, I've been pouring a lot more time in FF7 the past few days. Just getting to the Temple of the Ancients now.

I played this game on PSP more than a decade ago. I somehow managed to make my way through it to the final boss battle, but it didn't really click with /1
