Man, I just want to make video games and then

*gestures at the world*

yknow. Stuff.

Explicit pronoun declarations always seem like such an inelegant solution until you're at a all-genders women in games event and you realise you might be misgendering folks.

Yeah, it's inelegant, but it saves so much embarrassment.

(There'll be stickers next time. The badges had too little space)

As is always correct and in accordance with all the laws of the internet, I just watched Tom Holland's epic Lip Sync Battle performance, and now I am sharing it with all of you so you can do the same.

guy who always posts spicy takes after their game release posts a spicy take after their game release

I guess it works? People do be talking. Smart. I didn't actually know about the release.

HOT TAKE: Sometimes, I feel like the people saying this mean why isn't anyone with lots of power covering my game. When smaller folks ARE covering indie games and you're not uplifting them. You just want others to lift you up without giving back to the community.
spookycutewitch.bsky.social
“Why isn’t anyone covering our indie games?”

1. The gaming press has been decimated by business suits, and the whims of an uncaring search engine behemoth
2. Doing the job means you get death threats and harassment
3. There are more games released in 1 week than there were in entire months in 2015

Application boxes are out of control and must be culled. That's the political platform I'm running on

Nearly all government initiatives that put money right in the hands of the individual is profitable to the country.

But right wing governments are pound-foolish and mostly remove these programs because they ideologically refuse to believe supporting the individual is a net benefit.

Damn. This is amazing. £325 per week, paid monthly, for 3 years - and the result was a profit for the Irish economy:

Post from Threads user rodneyowl: "Ireland has declared the Basic Income for Artists scheme permanent. This will be officially announced in tomorrow’s budget. Details to follow. Congratulations to all who fought for it and the present and future artists of all sorts in Ireland. That includes me 👌We’re just comin to the end of a 3 year pilot scheme. It’s been a roaring success. For every €1 paid out to the 2000 participants, the government got €1.46 back. Can’t argue with that. Other countries are already taking note."

📣 Germany's close to reversing its opposition to mass surveillance & private message scanning, & backing the Chat Control bill. This could end private comms-& Signal-in the EU.

Time's short and they're counting on obscurity: please let German politicians know how horrifying their reversal would be.

We are alarmed by reports that Germany is on the verge of a catastrophic about-face, reversing its longstanding and principled opposition to the EU’s Chat Control proposal which, if passed, could spell the end of the right to privacy in Europe. signal.org/blog/pdfs/ge...

yknow early bsky was funny in the way that you occasionally would see an early adopter with a sudden big following crash and burn in public in a most spectacular way and for a while I thought it would never happen, but lo and behold the CEO answered my prayers

got some real early internet vibes
baroness.bsky.social
I can't remember who said it, but basically if a movement gets just as rage hyped over a company logo as over the assassination of an actual person, it's prone to burn out and not build actual lasting staying power.
And I think that's what we're seeing here.

You can't technical design your way out of a human interaction design problem.
baroness.bsky.social
Not quoting this to dunk, but to highlight that this sentiment is why bsky's overall UX is so poor

If a team does not include soft skills like UX design as a core skill for system architecture, they'll keep on making these mistakes

If the moderation policy feels 'thoughtless', yeah, because it is
jay.bsky.team
We’re system architects at core. We built a decentralized network so you could run your own moderation, but beyond that our upcoming healthy discourse project is taking some swings at the interaction model that drives these dynamics on Bluesky. Excited to start seeing it in action.

Like, again, is Bluesky a minimally-moderated space where you're supposed to use the provided tools to build your own moderation out of legos, or is it a platform that'll ban people for saying lol the wrong way? You can't have it both ways!
