Universality -beginning with universal, unconditional Basic Income, Healthcare and Education- is the foundation for a PEOPLE FIRST society. A society that views the fundamental needs of humanity as the central responsibility of governance. Not corporations, not religions, *people*.

When people have their basic human needs met, it frees up their lives for creativity, ingenuity, and enterprise.

Imagine the potential that could be unlocked if everyone was guaranteed basic shelter and basic income?

Myth: If we had a Basic Income, everyone would stop working.

Fact: People work for 2 main reasons: 1. They have an urge to do something constructive with their talents; 2. They want a good standard of living. Numerous studies have demonstrated that most people continue to work when receiving BI.

A 3-4 day work week. Guaranteed income for all. Free healthcare. Free school at all levels. And a radical transformation of our relationship to earth ecologies. All what we could do with our collective resources if both parties didn’t use our collective wealth to bomb the world.

“Families aren’t broken, the economy is.” @nataliefoster.bsky.social said what needed to be said 👏.

Too often, we place the burden of structural problems on families—and that’s unacceptable. We must instead change the structures so that they support the health and well-being of families.

Basic income is a reskilling investment. People need time to take courses. @mark-carney.bsky.social himself said we need a system where 40 yr olds can go back to school. They need basic income for that. Without it people get stuck in dead end jobs just for income security.

1 The alt left pipeline to me:

*healthcare is a human right & necessity - like food, water, housing.
*UBI, universal basic income is a must because the wealth inequality crisis has created too much financial insecurity in the lower 98%
*Unions protect workers
*Billionaires are unethical by nature

Every €1 invested returned €1.39 to society.

"The economic return on this investment in Ireland’s artists and creative arts workers is immediately having a positive impact for the sector and the economy overall."

Ireland just released a report showing the huge success of the unconditional basic income it provided to artists. Each $1 spent led to society gaining $1.39. Artists' earned incomes went up more than their side job incomes fell. And they were happier and used less welfare

www.gov.ie/en/departmen...
For every €1 of public money invested in the pilot, society received €1.39 in return
The net cost of the BIA pilot went from €105m to under €72m due to tax generated and savings on social welfare payments It also finds that recipients’ arts-related income increased by over €500 per month on average, while their income from non-arts work decreased by around €280. Dependence on social protection declined, with recipients receiving €100 less per month on average, and 38 percentage points less likely to receive Jobseeker’s payments.
