Chaplain and theologian with a large misfiring heart and aftermarket parts. British and American. 🇬🇧🇺🇸
Irony isn't just dead. Its corpse has been dug up and kicked around for shits and giggles.

As someone with an American accent who’s made his home in Britain for decades, this the first time I’ve felt self-conscious about what people will think when I open my mouth.

This is dangerous. As an American citizen it’s also fucking embarrassing.

And my personal favorite from a mss from Brasenose College, Oxford in 1528, added to a mss copy of Cicero’s De officiis by a monk of Osney Abbey about John Burton, the local abbot (&, according to other historical sources, an actual massive POS).

So much solidarity, dear little monk.

Reading a book from McCarthy’s Border Trilogy is a pleasure, and an excuse to brush up on the high school Spanish.

As a US/UK dual national, what I think right now is unprintable.

Holy shit.

Renee Good was alive when the bystander physician asked to check her pulse. She was alive when ICE refused to let him help. She was alive when they told him “I don’t care.”

Anger is not a sin. Anger is not love’s antithesis. It can travel with love.

Anger at moral obscenity, at the violation of human integrity, is an appropriate reaction. It can fuel change. It can allow us to protect ourselves and others.

I am, by the way, very angry right now.

Add friction to everything they do and it adds up. Every minute of their time you waste is a win. Attrition is a strategy
I’m just echoing others who have already said this, but it’s a good thing that it takes so many ICE agents to make a single arrest.

It makes the whole operation slower and more resource-intensive.

so between "if you work for the feds on immigration, seek counsel for the sake of your immortal soul" from the bishop of dallas and now "clergy, update your wills then hit the streets" from the bishop of new hampshire, I feel that a shift has begun in 2026 in the rhetoric from episcopal leadership

Vance's stance is, almost literally, "Well, she shouldn't have mouthed off like that. She asked for it."
When Vance insists, contra the videos, that Good threatened the ICE agent and "had it coming", what he means is that he, like Ross, feels threatened by any woman who has the audacity to use her voice in the public sphere.

This deeply misogynist worldview is core to MAGA.

I remember an America when we didn't have a department of Homeland Security, and when the police looked like police and not special forces cosplayers.

It’s a special kind of despicable to murder a woman and then attack her reputation, to try and kill her a second time over with lies. She has children who will hear these things about their mother. These people are without honour, decency, or restraint.

Just to be clear, as someone who holds US as well as UK citizenship, for America to seize Greenland would be unforgivable. It would be globally destabilising, end Nato, and constitute a morally despicable betrayal of allies and friends. No one will trust us again, and it would be what we deserve.
