"A Fairy's Requiem"

I wrote this for November Writing Month but apparently November is dedicated to novels and April is for poetry, but I already wrote it so, oh well.

I might record a recital and animation someday.

My heart was racing 10,000x per minute.
That's 10x faster than my small heart should run.
I always thought magic was infinite,
But it seems the forest's end has begun.

I felt my heart would burst at its seams.
But what other alternative was there?
What befell the fallen was obscene.
A heart torn to ribbons was luxury beyond compare.

My wings gave.
I collapsed to the forest ground.
I now must run to escape the knaves
That slaughtered my kinmates that they found.

I hid beneath a willow tree
To try and unearth hope sanguine.
And from my eyes beget a sea
From which I cried a steady stream.

The machines barged in the dawn before,
Smokestacks blowing toxic wreaths.
In front gaped giant mouths that tore
Through the village with silver teeth.

The first faes caught within the maw
Found themselves bound with shackles.
The only sound louder than their calls
Were the human drivers' callous cackles.

From underneath their prey were skewered,
Then dipped into a vat of gold.
I was left fraught and bewildered
When they emerged a lifeless mold.

The mechanical monsters were most unpiteous
When they claimed my sister Asphodel.
She cried out my name, "Amaryllis!"
With whirring gears as her knell.

Now alone, I rubbed my fairy's brooch
Upon which my name was etched.
I had hope to escape before they approached,
But alas, a hope farfetched.

The artificial fiends crashed through the verdant arbor.
Their fangs sank into me, roaring amuck.
And as I joined the party macabre
I screamed aloud: "you loathsome f-"

A young lady paced through a store. She meandered gracefully, wondering if any stray merchandise would elicit her fancy.
As she went down an aisle, a glint caught her eye. Sticking up from a box were little humanoid trinkets, meant to be pitched up as garden decorations. She chuckled "oh how cute" as she plucked one up and twirled the stem around in her palm. She admired the realistic detail, from the aquatic sheen in its eyes to its tiny pendant that read a legible "Amaryllis"

The second era of early Structure Decks, where they forced you to Tribute Summon the cover card.

That said, I think the Structure Deck as a whole was decent because it carried a robust Harpie Lady archetype with a mass backrow removal strategy.

The Goat Format Nibiru

Arguably still usable today in a control-heavy deck. Too situational to splash as most decks can apply protection before building a large board.

I think even in Goat and Edison Format, it lost contemporary popularity to the more proactive Compulsory Evacuation Device.

My best work comes when I have to submit a project hours before it is due.

I wasn't sure what direction my senior thesis was going, so I scrapped most of it and reviewed 100 sources and built it from the ground up in one day.

Also very proud of designing my oral report on Miley Cyrus' impact on American culture in one night.
