People have written about how over-the-top approaches to anti-drug education, which treated all drug use as disastrous, had a similar effect on attitudes toward more dangerous recreational drugs like heroin.
You're completely missing the point (and I'm not arguing with you about Bill Clinton). I'm comparing GOP responses then and now.

Going to take a swing, again, at what I think is the one biggest thing the establishment DC Searchlight Abundance mod blogger Argument blob (aka everyone with money and audience, sigh) is getting wrong:

Their model of how voters' brains work is not how voters brains actually work. 🧵
The "partisans" (so many questions) are not wrong, moving to the center is not the Way to Win, and hello @nytimes.com Ed Board. Apparently we are at the phase of responding to an argument without responding to the actual argument. Our first time being subeditorialized! Fun.

I'm pretty sure I was told that the 2024 election was about the price of eggs.
Yes, but this is not at all the point.

Looks as if Trump is saying no Democrat will be allowed to win another national election—and he will use the FBI, the DOJ, and the CIA to make sure of that. This is a full-scale attack on American democracy, and every Republican, CEO, and conservative mouthpiece who doesn't object is complicit.
Trump: "We can never let what happened in the 2020 election happen again. We just can't let that happen. I know Kash is working on it, everybody is working on it. And certainly Tulsi is working on it. We can't let that happen again to our country."

You cannot trust any statement any branch of the government makes at this point.
After the FBI denied "children were zip-tied or hit with rubber bullets" in a raid in Wilder, Idaho, the FBI said no "young" children were.

The updated statement came after KIVI-TV sent FBI photo reportedly showing 14-year-old U.S. citizen in zip ties.

Pregnant women describe miscarrying and bleeding out while in ICE custody, advocates say
The ACLU and other groups are pressing for ICE to identify and release all pregnant women in custody and to stop detaining anyone known to be pregnant, postpartum or nursing.

Holy buckets. This is exactly what the Oregon Silver Shirt fascist I’m writing about thought children should be taught about Communism ca. 1965 (minus the more recent references).
Florida’s Social Studies standards are getting another update next month.

No, those terrible African American History standards will stay, but there’s a huge update to our Anti-Communism education.

This is just one page.
The Rapture, I think.

A lot of them don't believe they are leaving their children this world.
It's funny how people who seem to understand that Republicans losing young people and Latino voters by less was crucial to their success in 2024, don't understand that losing rural voters by less could help Democrats win.
Given that the party has since been perfectly comfortable elevating Jim Jordan, whose abusive behavior is very public and well-known, the idea that they only supported Hastert because they had no idea of his past loses a lot of its force.
People who blame everything on "the DNC" imagine a smoke-filled room somewhere in which a tiny group of shadowy elites prevent a supposedly overwhelmingly democratic socialist public from coming to power.
I think there's a more specific reason for the misusage. It really took off in the wake of accusations that "the DNC" "rigged" the 2016 presidential primary.
💯
We need a total and complete shutdown of people using the term “the DNC” until our country's posters can figure out what the Democratic National Committee actually is and does.

For folks asking if they've made it *inside* a Home Depot yet as the business has clearly just continued letting agents do whatever they want in their lots, the answer is yes. This is from yesterday in Evanston.

It's not even necessarily about what you come to believe in your heart of hearts.

It's about what you come to believe is normal

I for one think the Epstein Ballroom will be magnificent. I love the decor theme of “what if Uday Hussein ran a Ramada Inn.” And giving it a theme song everyone will associate with it is a stroke of brilliance! “Thank Heaven for Little Girls” is very catchy.

Why does everyone keep calling it “The Epstein Ballroom?” Please stop repeating “The Epstein Ballroom” because it is not called “The Epstein Ballroom!” Don’t tell the news that it’s called “The Epstein Ballroom” and please don’t repost this!!!!!

Not to exploit attention economy guy's comments, but this White House attack REALLY IS a visual that is flooring people, including dopes like Byron York.

And it'd be useful to think of all the ways to use it as an organizing/messaging platform, PARTICULARLY bc of timing, "Let them eat ballroom."
As a matter of current law, could the president just…knock down the entire White House? Just raze the whole thing to the ground?

ICE once again attacking the most vulnerable.

They sent an entire squad of agents to arrest a disabled blind man named Quinn Haberl.

They took his cane and dragged him off by his feet.

His head was perilously close to the pavement.
