Remarkably the station and masts at Brookmans Park have been broadcasting continuously for nearly a century. They pioneered global advances in mass media communication and were the site of the first public transmission of simultaneous sound and vision in the world, in 1930.

NEWS: DCMS has rejected the historic BBC Brookmans Park Transmitting Station in Hertfordshire (1928) for listing, overruling the recommendation of Historic England and C20 to designate the site Grade II. The decision is the latest in a spate of controversial ministerial interventions in heritage.

The red light at the top has always been my point of direction since I was a kid living in Welwyn Garden City. I could always work out where I was in WGC, Hatfield, St Albans & surrounding villages by sight of the transmitter. Also it was used in Super Secret Cyber Snatch episode of The Avengers 👌

Blue Tulip Rose Read lived in our town, Welwyn Garden City. She was a regular around the town centre. Always remember seeing her in McDonalds barking likè a dog to music from a cassette recorder she would carry around with her. Made as a box of frogs.
