I never met my biological grandfathers, but my grandmothers were the greatest women I knew and they hated MAGA. Even aunts/uncless/cousins aside for a few I'm not close with. I truly did hit the lottery with family. Thankful for them.

I am one of the lucky ones, though likely only because my immediate family is really small. Mom is a wine mom liberal psycho (complimentary), her boyfriend is also a wine mom liberal psycho (complimentary for the most part he just never stfu). Even my dad, while a crap father, despises MAGA.
If you live in the US and you’re white, unless you’re very lucky, you’re dealing with the awareness that a good-size chunk of your family not only would go Nazi if given the chance, but were given the chance and took it without any hesitation, and are Nazis now, so that’s what they were all along.

I go to therapy and and put the work in, which I guess is all I can do, but I often have this petrifying fear, especially on bad days, that it’s really just never going to get better and this is how it’s always going to be. Not sure there’s any feeling in this world worse than hopelessness.

There is a difference between police and ICE, and even if you believe ACAB (The theory). I've dealt with bad police officers, I've also dealt with very good police officers who I am sure got into policing because they wanted to help. There is no good ICE officer. They don't exist.
