Today, after months of requests, I toured the Broadview ICE Processing Facility. I want to share what I saw.
The facility has no food vendor, no medical care, and detainees have to use toilets in the middle of shared cells. These are in no way suitable conditions to be holding anyone — period.

Yesterday my partner and I counted all the ads along Chicago's Brown Line for "Friend," a company selling an AI chatbot pendant, and tallied how many of those ads were defaced.
Still working on a longer piece on this, but here's the quick and dirty: we counted 104 "Friend" ads total, 42 defaced.

11 years ago today, 12 year old Tamir Rice was gunned down by police officers on Cleveland’s west side.
The officer shot him within seconds of arriving at the park he was playing in.
Tamir’s life mattered. It still does. My thoughts are with his family today.

If you read ONE story today about what an awful person Bobby Kennedy Jr is, make it this one by Tatianna Schlossberg who is an incredible writer in the face of real tragedy.
One thing that’s very funny about living in Canada as an American is that they don’t give a single shit that US Thanksgiving is on Thursday but they pull out all the stops for Black Friday. It’s truly a standalone holiday here

I find this sort of doomerism so exhausting. The House overwhelmingly voted to release the files. The Senate looks poised to do the same. This is a monumentally unpopular President. Why do we need to immediately assume the worst? It may happen, sure, but these kinds of responses are so unhelpful.
