I know it’s crazy out there an all that, but you still should be working on an artistic pursuit and/or making music. You’ll be glad you did.

This is such a cool illustration of how the Mercator map distorts the size of Greenland, which looks as big as the whole continent of Africa on that map but is actually the size of Mexico.

I was telling one of my kids that it was physically impossible for an ad to play between songs on any of the records I own, and they asked "and you only have to pay for it once?" and you could see how strange that seemed. You cannot overstate how many basic rules of media consumption have changed.

It is with great sadness that we report the sudden and unexpected death of Roland Jackson whilst climbing on Helvellyn on 10 January 2026.

Outside London, not a single UK region is a net contributor to the economy. London's success helps mask a very dysfunctional economy.
12/17 Poland’s regions are richer than west Wales, poorest part of Britain. Dolnoslaskie (Lower Silesia) in Poland’s southwest is better off than Greater Manchester. Strip London out, Britain’s output/head just 3% ahead of Poland’s.

Poland is nearly as rich as the UK. How has it caught up so fast?
When it comes to investment, particularly in its regions, perhaps Britain is the country that needs to keep up

In contrast the Engineering Council's CEO today talked explicitly about technology ethics and ethical practice being priorities for the engineering community (and he knew the difference between those things)
At the EPC Congress this year, Chi Obwura's keynote went seamlessly from 'technology can cause harm as well as good, social media is very worrying' to 'here are the 10 things were doing to accelerate AI adoption'. Not one of those 10 was governance or ethics.
After two really enjoyable days at #Metascience2025, I wrote about how one 🌶️ moment encapsulated the controversy over metascience's issues 📑, inclusivity 🤗and future public value 🔮 #STS #AcademicSky

Doesn't every country celebrate figures who have triumphed against the odds?
