the perennial "is this a good replacement for twitter / can it become as big as twitter" discussion is so confused. hominids became bipedal about 7 million years ago. for most of the time since we did not have microblogging. it's not a necessity it's a habit, if it all goes away that's fine

I know we all had a different experience of the world - but hearing people had a good 2016 is kind of hard to comprehend. How???

a few things I want people to get from this:
-how tense it is here. I was death-gripping the steering wheel during this, even watching it makes me tense up
-how organized the community is. the rapid response networks are ENORMOUS and highly effective
-how completely the city is united against ICE

I genuinely worry that people don't *get* the point of fiction anymore
"We want to make Star Trek real," said Elon Musk.

"We want to make Starfleet Academy real so that it's not always science fiction, but one day the science fiction turns to science fact."

Why can my mind not accept that I'm okay and we don't need to freak out/self sabotage just because something will require effort

I'm not sure when I turned my social media into an auxiliary diary but it's an interesting use of it. Sometimes when I have thoughts they feel more real after I post them. Maybe it's just because I'm putting it out there and my friends might see it? I'm not sure.

It's kind of sad to admit neither YouTube or micro blogging sites are enjoyable to me in the same guild free passive entertainment way they used to be. I don't know if I'm growing out of them or if I've just used them too much in the last decade and a half I've been on the web. But I'm burnt out

It's amazing how the latest Batman and Superman movies have been exactly what I wanted to see from both characters. I know these things come in cycles but it's nice to feel like this one was really "for me" in the way previous ones haven't necessarily been

I vastly prefer TV shows to release weekly instead of all at once. Give me something to look forward to! The regular ritual of catching up with a serialized story - or familiar characters and settings - is one of the key things that make television soecial

I'm yet again considering making my latest script about a trans woman going through a tough breakup into a werewolf story... Part of me feels like it's a cheap gimmick to pad a story I feel uncomfortable digging into directly... But the other part of me... Think werewolves

I love y’all but the way some of y’all post on here is almost indistinguishable from the grandmas on Facebook who post “META SAYS THEY WANT TO ERASE ACCOUNTS MADE BEFORE 2019 TO SAVE BANDWIDTH. COPY AND PASTE THIS ON YOUR WALL TO LET META KNOW THAT YOU DO NO APPROVE THEM DELETING YOUR ACCOUNT”

Despite it occasionally being a guilty pleasure for me I think we can all admit commentary videos are in the same bag as true crime and tabloid journalism in being an exploitive way of covering sensationalistic stories that deserve more dignity

It's amazing how Fallout remains so popular despite it being over a DECADE since the last mainline release and no sign of a release date for a new one any time soon. Granted the TV show really helps but even before that it has a stating power some franchises could only dream of

Basic media literacy: there are multiple clips out there showing this shooting, mostly up close and unobstructed (except by the car itself). Trump’s social media post includes a clip from far away, through trees, and slowed to super slow motion.

Those are *choices*

You and your wife drop your 6-year-old off at school. You just moved here. You see ICE terrorizing your new neighbors. You film them, as is your legal right. Your wife complies with orders. She is then shot in the head. You still have to pick up your child later today.

This could be you.

1. The attacks on trans people have become untenable, and many people feel like they can no longer stay in their homes.

Now, this morning, the Movement Advancement Project put hard numbers on it: 9% of transgender people, 400,000 people, have moved states.
