Hey everyone, just arrived here where hopefully the air is a little less murky! I'm a therapist and author based in Edinburgh, and here is a wee story I wrote a few years ago in the aftermath of the Scottish independence referendum. www.amazon.co.uk/Angel-Stone-...

The turnout in small towns across the country has been incredible drawing crowds of thousands. We’re already seeing over one million in attendance nationwide, and events are still underway. Florida, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Ohio all had especially surprising showings.

Today’s show was my last at CNN. My closing message: It’s never a good time to bow down to a tyrant… don’t give in to the lies. Don’t give in to fear. Hold on to the truth… and hope.

So grateful for Martin Luther King day.
We have two fantastic groups all geared up and ready to rumble. @earthjustice.bsky.social and the @aclu.org
We've worked with both and can assure you they're prepared to take on any challenge.
Don't let it consume you
But also don't turn a blind eye

I'm coming a bit late to this one, but White Tiger by Aravind Adiga has knocked me over. It's an absolute firecracker, narrated by a voice of dark, dark humour and rage about social injustice in the 'new' India. A must read. (Though Max dozed off when he found out it's not actually about tigers).

I am a climate scientist and this is correct ⬇️
Occasional reminder that there’s no, “it’s too late, its over” for anthropogenic climate change. Every molecule of CO2 that doesn’t go into the atmosphere makes a difference. Preventing 0.1 degree of warming makes a difference. Every bit of climate resilience we build together makes a difference.

Humanity's capacity for collective denial continues to astonish me. We watch the fires in LA with horror. Some news outlets seem more concerned about the Hollywood sign than about homes and lives- both humans and animals. Almost none of the coverage focuses on the climate disaster causing this.

After a New Year's Day of sleet, snow and wind, today brought still water, sunlit snowfields and ice jewels on the branches. I remind myself to appreciate the beauty that comes after the hard days. #scotland #winterdays #walking #mentalhealth

Ultreia et suseia is a saying on the Camino Santiago. It means roughly 'beyond and upwards.' A while ago I led a creative writing workshop for women and on the last day the group crafted this collaborative poem. A solid reminder for the year ahead. #keepmoving #onwards

Shame on all of us for our complicity.
This is the lash photograph of Dr Hussam Abu Safiyeh, taken as he walks, unflinching, towards the Israeli tanks. An absolutely harrowing image.

I became a better therapist when I accepted not knowing.
It would arguably seem, looking from the outside, that knowledge gained is the primary outcome of graduate training, with psychotherapy skills coming in a distant second, and self-awareness coming sometime after lunch.

This song hits many nails on the head. It went down an absolute treat at the #Barrowlands in Glasgow on Monday night, as did the entire set. Third year seeing the #MaryWallopers at the Barras, and it was bouncing. Love these guys, and the whole crew who come over from Dundalk to support them.

Let's put the fire on and watch a nice heartwarming film, I said, turning on A Man Called Otto. Turns out, it's basically a feature-length version of the opening sequence of Up. 2 hours later, I'm a tearstained mess. Should have done my research better. Jeez. (No, I hadn't read the book).

I must admit, seasonal depression hits me hard in December. After a bleak week of feeling ill, burnt out and sorry for myself, it was a joy to get out for a walk on this bright winter morning. This wee fellow seemed to be enjoying himself too. #walking #smallpleasures #winterblues

Grief Awareness Week 2024: Exploring the Many Shades of Grief — Cassandra Geisel: Psychotherapy & Consultancy

Something I love about teaching adults is reconnecting with the inner child through creativity. Last night we did art to illustrate our beliefs about death and after death. Tears and also lots of laughter: a powerful group experience. #counsellingtraining #adultlearning #creativity

And maybe we could fill them up with books and cds that people can borrow, and have little meeting spaces where community groups can get together, and you can use a computer or sit all day and read, and it's warm and free. I seem to recall we used to have a place like that in every town.
We urgently need non medical spaces where people in distress can access comfort, community and support, human to human. Without having to accept a pathologising label in return.

I'm so looking forward to catching up with friends at the pre-Christmas literary lunch tomorrow, organised by @portybelle.bsky.social. I haven't written much at all lately, and I feel like a part of my soul is in hibernation. Hopefully being around other writers will help it wake up!

Winter has hit hard today, in more ways than one. Here's to the little beams of light and the green things that will always find a way to grow.

I love this. Safety in therapy is a myth, and a misnomer, as I guess it is in life generally. If it was safe, it would be ineffective! But it must be a brave space, and creating that brave space is a collaborative effort. Change takes great courage.
Have been reflecting on not being able to guarantee a safe space for people. This has been supported by Myira Khan’s work and thoughts on the matter. Today at my placement, I came across this and I really liked it. Any thoughts? Brave spaces instead of safe spaces?
