I used to handle interlibrary loans for a public library. ILL is a magnificent expression of the idea that readers deserve books, and books deserve readers. It’s libraries everywhere pooling their resources for the benefit of everyone.

Killing IMLS could have killed ILL.

This is great news. 📚

#librarians need to see this happy pup! 📚
Huskies love libraries. Do you love huskies? Then you should love libraries.

I'm sure librarians will show up in the next round, or maybe we're in the "educators" category. 😡📚
According to the DOE, I don't hold a professional degree anymore! 😳 I guess my two Master's degrees are worthless now.

Reposting for awareness! Mesa County folks, if you care about your public libraries, please show up!! 📚
Mesa County (Colorado) Libraries is really struggling with a hostile board. The next board meeting is December 11 at 5:30pm at the Central Library in Grand Junction. If you support libraries in Mesa County, it's time to get loud! mesacountylibraries.org/aboutus/boar...

In 6th grade in 1988, a male teacher regularly gave long back rubs to the girls in class who had begun developing breasts. It was disgusting and no one with any authority cared.
In honor of Larry Summers, I asked the female members of my college class (1987) to say if they had any experiences with sexual harassment by teachers/professors, back when this was tolerated as, I dunno, the cost of attending college, and OH MY GOD.

A Trump supporter started murdering his way through an assassination list of Democratic law makers FIVE MONTHS AGO. He murdered my colleague Melissa Hortman, and her husband Mark — and attempted to assassinate my dear friend John Hoffman and his wife Yvette. I was also on the hit list. WTF

I really can't stress how important it is for progressive and leftists to contend for school, library, water, etc etc boards. Hyper local involvement in our communities where we can actually influence lives.

History Colorado has removed Madalyn Drewno’s painting, "None of Us are Free Unless All of Us are Free" from its Big Dreams in Denver’s Little Saigon exhibition. The painting is critical of ICE and CO politicians; and depicts scenes of protest regarding Palestine, Sudan, and the Congo.

I wrote about why you absolutely do not have to hand it to Marjorie Taylor Greene, and posed a few basic questions that her interlocutors ought to be asking her, like: who won the 2020 election?

A new study shows that child, early and forced marriage and unions (CEFMU) is adapting to the digital age, becoming more hidden and harder to prevent.
Why Won't the U.S. Stop Child Marriage?
Child marriage is a persistent problem, and the United States is far from immune. Most child brides are young girls wed to adult men.

Really wish Denver media was paying attention to the library labor issues and expertise flying out of DPL. It's a steady drip rather than a mass layoff, but same consequences 📚

In college, I read "the spirit catches you and you fall down" it compelled me to start to practice empathy and cultural humility
performative reading, lack of reading skills, nobody's reading anymore -- NO!

tell me about a book that changed you

for me? the *extremely* ahistorical novel, THE AGONY AND THE ECSTASY which I read at 13 and was like, "Oh, art can be *everything* to a maker, for good and bad"
