putting 'petit bourgeoisie' on the high shelf until baby leftists figure out who that actually refers to.
We’re not small business owners, ffs - we’re independent contractors, and we are routinely robbed by the world’s dumbest dingbats.

For the uninitiated:

I started a horror blog when I was 18 called "Day of the Woman: A Blog for the Feminine Side of Fear." It's also what got me published in my first book about film. This led to my first documentary appearance in GROWING UP W/ I SPIT ON YOUR GRAVE.

If Zootopia was a film teaching not to judge a book by its cover, #Zootopia2 is an exploration of how the stereotypes that pit us against each other came to be & the lengths the wealthy elite will go to maintain a status quo that keeps some communities demonized.

The announcement of a lifetime — I contributed a solo commentary track for the Umbrella release of I SPIT ON YOUR GRAVE (1978).

I still cannot believe this. Bringing DAY OF THE WOMAN completely full circle.

Day Of The Woman: I Spit On Your Grave + I Spit On Your Grave: Deja Vu
Decades later, I SPIT ON YOUR GRAVE: DEJA VU (DAY OF THE WOMAN: DEJA VU) revisits that legacy with shocking audacity, bringing the story full circle in a brutal, haunting continuation that refuses to ...

As I get older I realize this is one of my favorite scenes in THE EXORCIST, and its power is in its austerity. It’s pared down to its essence, and it carries the weight of the entire movie.

I am a basic ass bitch who is a sucker for all things WICKED, but Amelia is 100% right!!!
Now that folks have had the weekend to see WICKED: FOR GOOD, I'm over at @thewrap.com going long about how the ending doesn't just fail to meet to moment, it fails to live up to what Jon M. Chu and co. set up in Part 1.

"The girl in the bubble," indeed.

The 'Wicked: For Good' Ending Fails to Meet the Moment | Commentary
The ending of "Wicked: For Good" avoids the darker conclusion from the book, but does a disservice to the sociopolitical commentary in the process.

The erasure of figures like Cher that came before aside, Ariana Grande starred on two different popular TV shows on Nickelodeon before becoming a pop star, not to mention her career on the stage.

She was an actor before she was a pop star.

I am being completely sincere when I say that Udo Kier’s performance as Professor Pericles on SCOOBY-DOO: MYSTERY INCORPORATED is easily in his top 5 best roles.

RIP to one of the greats.

When misogyny is baked into every aspect of existence, how do we know when a critique is not the result of an implicit bias or overt hatred for women? And when do we know praise is coming from a place of sincerity and not defensiveness? #WickedForGood

Helping a teenager who wants to grow up and help others seems like a solid investment ❤️
I’m sharing a Palestinian account every day and today is Safaa. Safaa is only 16 years old and is trying to help her mother Manal who is a widow with 7 children, 3 of whom live with her in a tent. Safaa told me she wishes to go to Europe and work with refugee children when she is older. ❤️

You don’t have to like Nuzzi or approve of her conduct to understand that Lizza’s choice to publish the material that he is publishing is meant to sexually humiliate her in public in retaliation for disappointing him romantically. The term for that is revenge porn.

Magenta is the most cosmic color because there is no wavelength of light that corresponds to that particular color. Our brains just sort of fill in the gaps to make sense of it.

Which is why, H.P. Lovecraft's "The Colour Out of Space" is pink/magenta.

SEVENTEEN AGAIN is a more interesting movie to talk about than it is to watch, but I'm forever going to associate it with the delightful conversation we had with @sumitlakehornet.bsky.social about it so it's now a forever favorite. 🥰

On this Trans Day of Remembrance, I think about the countless trans people whose names won't be plastered on infographics because the world was so hostile and violent to them that they felt the need to opt out on their own terms.
