My most liked posts have typos. My best posts don't get likes. I have a Ph D, you don't have to explain the two-party system to me.
Racial Capitalism
I been thinking about how the entire record industry is seemingly set up to make sure Black ppl aren't properly compensated for their artistic contributions. Like, more and more I feel like that's the entire purpose.

You just don't have the range. There is actual social science research that shows racial resentment as the best predictor for support for Trump. AKA evidence that suggests racism may be the central motivating factor in support. Do you get it now? Or you about to intentionally miss the point?
How is this helpful? Trump is openly racist and uses un-couched racism in his politics. Obviously yes. So how do you get from that, to the idea that racism is Trump's 'central motivating factor' - whatever that even means, exactly - and that whoever does not agree w/you should be shunned?

Funny how many otherwise loud people manage to act completely unaware as to how problematic substack is
no disrespect, but I'm not subscribing to your Substack for reasons that should be obvious if you google words like "substack" and "nazis"

Because those supporters view the working class as White. That allows DEI to be understood as something that then hurts the working class as socially constructed. And this view is bipartisan, Bernie Sanders often distinguishes between the working class and POC
I think framing the idea of diversity as a corporate intervention or co-opted campaign and not protections for workers from marginalized communities is absolutely by design and it’s odd to me so many people who are supposedly in support of the working class have adopted this framing.
Extremely fair point though it was perhaps a strategic error to let the idea of "diversity" become so totally co-opted by business in this way.

Does anyone use video captioning software that doesn't suck? When Canvas says their captions are 85% accurate, they mean LITERALLY 85%

I just donated here and just want to encourage others to too if they can
There is no victory without Black Victory, there is no victory without Trans victory, there is no victory without Black Trans Victory.

Please, make me have to own up and cut my hair if you can take part and just boost if you dont have anything to give. It means more than you know.
I'm doing charity fundraising for National Black Trans Advocacy Coalition. We need to support both the Black community & the Trans community and I'm putting my money where my mouth is: I set a $2000 goal. If we hit the goal? I'm cutting my hair and donating the hair too.

AI is a tool of fascism. Full stop. It was created for the specific purpose of stealing the work of others, demoralizing artists, and eliminating middle class jobs to push creators out of art and into the lowest paying work. When you endorse AI slop, that’s what you’re endorsing.

Until a larger percentage of White folks are willing to violate the #1 rule of American culture, "Don't knowingly offend White sensibilities", we are all just going to be stuck on this fucked up hamster wheel.

It always comes down to "But THAT would mean that my partner/uncle/boss/pastor is RACIST"
He's racist, we been knew that. That's what the conniptions over "woke" and "DEI" and immigrants and everything else has always been about.

You wanna be useful? Rebuke this shit with deeds and hire us. Stand with us. Respect us and our leadership.

I don't need pity or condolences. I need a job.

People need to really ask themselves why analysis that connects present conditions to the historical legacy of this country makes them so uncomfortable

You're missing the point that "we've always been this way" is about us not caring what happens to "criminals". So the only way to stop this is to unpack our thirst for punishment/criminalization. Otherwise we are just debating about which groups end up being mistreated in these institutions.
And I get the carceral state of America is not a new issue, but I think when they’ve set aside an enormous amount of money to build concentration camps that seem to be worse than the worst prisons, I’m not sure “we’ve always been this way” is the most helpful way to motivate righteous outrage.

It's why so many students of color start in poli sci but end up as soc/ethnic studies majors
Just thinking again about all the white fools & gaslighters in political science who said widespread white supremacy wasn’t a thing any more, or refused to teach about it.

Watching commentators still refusing to see the white nationalism of this administration and arguingTrump is targeting Atlanta, Philadelphia and Detroit because they are blue cities is just, it’s got to be intentional at this point. There are a ton of blue cities. These are majority Black cities.

And a lot of your favorite thinkers, writers, and leaders decided they didn’t have to care about Black people anymore because it was déclassé, we shouldn’t let that pass without comment.

So in other words people should have.... stayed woke. *sees self out*
A lot of the op-ed writers who influenced thought, votes, national media, culture wars & policy, snuffed out cultural movements like MeToo, Black Lives Matter, who gets taxed & who doesn’t, the list goes on… were just saying shit to cover their own tracks.

We got our asses completely handed to us.

I'm still forming this thought. But basically everyone has "these" kind of guys. But like the Black versions of these guys get big on social media, maybe make it to Breakfast Club. But there's also a lot of pushback.

White people take the White versions of these guys, & put them in charge of shit
It's super, super weird that these guys have about the same influence on what discourse happens on Twitter any given day than Walker Cronkite had on the American viewing public.
