I came across this video, now I kind of wanna make a mechanic like this be in a game... #gamedev #indiedev
Thank you! Do you mean a demo of the first game I was making? I never compiled a build of it and the videos show pretty much all there was, so it would really be more trouble than it's worth... As for the new game, I'm planning to release that at the start of next year.
I am still working on it, though progress is pretty slow... I should probably pick up the pace, anyway, I'll share a video of it at the start of the next month!
I'll be working on it until the end of the year, it's Hamtaro's 25th anniversary this year after all. That gives me about 3 months. This may result in me having less stuff added than planned but I'll work better with that deadline.

I'll share development here, If anyone read all that, thank you!
Okay, so, pro-tip if you have a HUGE uneven sprite sheet and want to use it in Godot but also don't want to go insane just use something like Dazz's tSR Tools to split the sprites into individual images and put them in a folder. <( _ _ )>

Seriously, it'll save you a lot of pain...

So apparently Godot spritesheets have to be perfectly even unless you want to constantly be fighting with it, I encountered this issue with my first Godot game but I thought maybe there was a way around it. It'll take a lil while to edit the sheets but I guess it's not that bad, just a bit annoying.

As far as how this new game will work... Think of it like a very mini Hamtaro game with productivity features and perhaps little mini-games. Like half a productivity app and half a mini Hamtaro game! Maybe kind of random, but I think it would be cool to make something I can continuously utilize.
That being said, I intend to give making a Hamtaro game another go, I still really want more Hamtaro content and it doesn't seem like that will happen officially too soon... Plus, I want a bit more experience in Godot before I begin working on a big game I've been planning for.
It was like the third or forth game I made in Unity, and while I did learn a lot from it, it's probably a good example of how NOT to go about handling a project. I had like three different ideas on how the game would be and in 2-3 years made hardly any progress on working towards any of them.
Finally, here is a short look at the opening cutscene I made. There was an entire sequence in the room originally but it broke and I don't feel like figuring out my old code to fix it... There was also a small test area I made where you help Oxnard find his sunflower seed but that broke too.
Here's a look at the dialogue box. A simple feature, but I like the way I made it look aesthetically. Somehow it broke because of a newer thing I added so I had to do a bit of work to get it working again...
Here's a look at the title screen. I made the sunflowers in the logo move with the music! I remember it would often de-sync though. I probably could have made a script that actually made the sunflowers move with the music properly.
One of the last things I added was the inventory. I believe it was somewhat functional but it seems to be missing from the current version I have and I have no footage of it being used properly.
Also, I was pretty lazy when it came to certain features. I really needed to add a script for NPC movement and stuff but I ignored that, figuring I could just use Unity's animation scripts which... technically worked, but it would make things feel more difficult than they had to be.
But I kept getting new ideas and decided to focus on those exciting new ideas! It was fun, but because of this the game barely got anywhere. I guess a somewhat good comparison would be decorating the interior of an unfinished house.
Near the end of me working on it there were a lot of random features added, like time of day, visual seasons and I had started working on a farming system. The initial idea was to make a game like Hamtaro: Rainbow Rescue, which would have been hard enough on it's own...
A couple of years ago I began working on a Hamtaro fan game, it helped me learn a lot of stuff in Unity back then but I was very overly ambitious with it. It ended up being more of a playground where I would try out new stuff in Unity. #hamtaro #gamedev #ハム太郎 #indiedev
once you set up you're feeds it feels really nice here! it's kind of more peaceful I guess? compared to some other platforms everything feels more orderly... can't wait to start sharing some stuff I'm doing!
hello bluesky! creating this account has made me realize I don't really follow any particular game design related accounts anywhere. what to do...
