As the baby boom generation ages and their adult children mature in their careers, boomers confront the most difficult challenge — facing their own mortality. It comes as a shock to realize they may have to cede both power and control.
Terry Savage: The toughest talk
Once upon a time, parents and children sat down together for the toughest talk: the birds and the bees. Now it’s time to face up to an even tougher conversation: the bills and the wills.

I’m gonna disagree with this one.

What we’re calling “AI” doesn’t replace cognition. It replaces pattern matching, but on its own has no idea which patterns are important or why.

We are nowhere close to an actual thinking machine.
The plow, the steam engine, electricity — all replaced muscle. AI replaces cognition. If you spend your day “reading lots of stuff and turning it into straight English,” well… so does the machine. The goal now is to learn from history and cushion the blow better than last time.

If you plan on using your Apple ][ with a SoftSP card, a Disk ][-like controller & certain drive emulators - you may want to do a mod to your floppy cable.

It's "old news", but it came across my dash & I thought folks might want to know.

This bedrock has greater compositional diversity than the surface layers, because they are from greater depths, older, jumbled, and altered, and very diverse.

You shouldn’t like her, or even celebrate her—you can cheer the action and not the person. We want to encourage more defections, not kid ourselves about who people are.
