Look, I get that many scientists and engineers are researching improved battery chemistries with greater energy density. But why can't we just run our cars on the highest-capacity energy storage devices already devised: microwave burritos?

I have often said, "If we can build a subway for sewage, we can build a subway for people."
remembering my favorite portland infrastructure fun fact: the big pipe has a larger bore (7.6m) than the robertson tunnel (6.4m), making it in fact the biggest pipe in the portland metro
Atmospheric River means it's time again for the Big Pipe Tracker.

Every time I look in my "Network Trash Folder" none of the trashy people I see online are in it. Useless feature.

Share a '90s movie you think deserves more love... letterboxd.com/film/mixed-n... (And yes I'm aware some people believe the film to be transphobic, when in my opinion it's the opposite, although problematic. There are transphobic tropes but they are a catalyst for character development/acceptance.)

(Possibly too personal) question for @straczynski.bsky.social - Thinking about family and aging lately. Remembered that back in the Usenet days, you asked for advice on retirement homes for your mother in my particular suburb of Portland. We emailed w/each other. Did she find a good place?

If the person who did this gets fired or is stiffed for payment, I offer my heartfelt Fonts and Prayers.
The font would appear to be English 111 Adagio CE, available for the highly presidential sum of just $39.75 USD

Note "The" is not kerned correctly

The 70-year saga of the Uncle Sam billboard on I-5 south of Chehalis and its provocative, conservative messaging took an abrupt turn this summer when the billboard and the 3.5 acres on which it sits was purchased by the Confederated Tribes of the Chehalis Reservation.
Uncle Sam billboard on I-5 near Chehalis goes from right-wing zingers to a statement of Native rights
The billboard, with separate messages for people traveling north and south on I-5, has garnered an undue amount of attention since the highway cut through the turkey farm owned by Alfred Hamilton and his wife Ruth in the early 1960s.

A question for @kenwhite.bsky.social - I read your post about how if Kimmel were to sue the Trump admin. for rights violations, there would be little remedy except possibly injunctive relief, which might not be of much use. I wonder if there is a way he could pursue private entities for harm? 1/

We also cancelled Disney/Hulu last night. I did not expect Andor to become a live-action interactive experience with nonconsensual audience participation. (Well, I did expect it, I just didn't want it.)

We just cancelled our Dish Network service entirely, after 27 years of continuous operation. I know that Trump-buddy and Dish-founder Charlie Ergen won't feel it, but I can no longer let my $$$ go to fascists just for entertainment. Other things will be tougher, but looking for alternatives.

Thread: My maternal grandfather fought at the Battle of the Bulge. Back when I was in college, I opposed the 1st Iraq war (and later the 2nd). I was afraid to tell him, because his own life had been put on the line in a major conflict, and I thought he would disapprove... /1
