Needed soul-restoring musical accompaniment to my cooking tonight. I went with this album, which I listened to often in my early 1990s commute (on cassette tape of course). Definitely my favorite band for getting back to my center.

Been reading a lot on the Weimar Republic and the whole interwar period, some on kindle, others in hardcover or paperback. Just finished Vertigo, an excellent coverage of cultural heights and lows of that era in Germany. #History

It's disturbing to see these programs cut. Thank you for the positive note about learning a different culture. After years of being so focused on a career, I'm finding in retirement the joy of cultural learning.

This makes my degree in medieval Japanese literature even more important to me- if people are trying so hard to suppress knowledge of other cultures and languages, it must be exceedingly valuable.

Wow. The University of Chicago, a world-class institution whose humanities faculty in the past has included Homi Bhabha & Lauren Berlant & Ralph Ellison & Hannah freaking Arendt, is getting rid of basically every graduate department involving the acknowledgment that other cultures & languages exist.

Listening to www.changetechnically.fyi/2396236/epis... this morning, & they really nailed it re the "process" of science being so important. Many science news items just seem cool and exciting, but it's the process that is most meaningful. Something to remember as federal funding gets cut to shreds

I finished the novel, Pachinko, by @minjinlee.bsky.social . I was attracted to a family saga covering much of 20th century. But it’s much more than a story of a family. It dealt w/immigration & prejudice thru war & peacetime. The narrative was unique. I’ll write a longer review on GoodReads soon.
