He's such a fun and petty villain to write 🤣

Anyway, Being scene from Anhelos Bound.

For greater context, the Being is using Pascal's Wager (essentially) to argue religion with a missionary.

The man dipped his head. "You call me evil, but what exactly constitutes evil?" the Being asked, drumming his fingers on the table. The priest tentatively selected some carrots, staring at them skeptically. The Being supressed the desire to roll his eyes and grabbed one of the carrots, eating it pointedly. This calmed the priest, and he chewed thoughtfully.

Inside the city is a perfectly preserved (at least on the outside) magically locked tower. Rumour says the body of the Mad Emperor is buried there.

In Poison and Opium, there's the onmitsu (intelligence/spies), the nobility, Zandaka's cult (Lady Shadow, Kanashimi, Saigai), the High Priestess, and the Imperial court. I guess ObiDai kind of make up their own faction too

"No, it had to be someone who knew him. Maybe Kaz?" He frowned, "that doesn't entirely fit though. Nothing about Rylen ever seems to fit perfectly," he sighed, "I guess if it did this case would have resolved itself." Adrian laughed and he chuckled with her. "Sounds like you liked him."

This is after the queen ordered the destruction of all gardens growing silphium...

You might consider charging separately for the room and meals. It might be fairer to the merchants who’ve brought their own food, anyway.” “Your Lordship, the Good Thyme Inn is a respectable and dignified establishment. The merchants who stay here expect to dine on food prepared in the kitchen by our chef trained at the House of the Lime Flame. They won’t leave satisfied if they have to eat whatever preserved food they keep in their wagons. Why, they might choose to bypass Aleton altogether and take their business to Dawndorrel instead.” Velderash pursed his lips and closed his eyes. “I will discuss the issue with my steward.” That was the end of it. Shallot knew she’d pressed her luck too far speaking as she had with him. She knew there would be no compensation. No resolution. Nothing to come her way. Her only option would be to increase prices… again. Which would drive more merchants away and drive up the prices of everything in Aleton, but what else could she do? She was but one woman. Then again, it was one woman who caused all these problems in the first place.

If Raven chose to vocalize one specific secret to Quinn years ago he could have found evidence and confronted one of the antagonists years ago thereby stopping one plot point from happening at all and thwarting another major plot point fairly early on.

Talismans of Sin (a bit long, but hopefully a sweet moment 🤭)
However, his plan quickly changed when he stepped out from behind the screen. In the corner near the window, where the long cotton curtains easily swayed in the breeze, Obito slept soundly. Likely for the first time all day. Daisuke let himself get caught up in the sight, admiring the way the late afternoon sun cast a warm glow on his brown skin, how the wind gently tousled his dark hair, and the peaceful expression resting on his face while he dozed. Daisuke smiled to himself, unable to suppress the surge of affection blooming in his chest. He didn’t think he would’ve been able to even if he’d tried. “How long have you been here?” he whispered as he crouched in front of Obito. Driven by impulse, he brushed stray hair away from his eyes; long eyelashes fluttered, but he didn’t stir. He smiled again, letting himself stare a little longer. “Well, I’m somehow on my feet again, so I guess I’ll get dressed and find out how hard you are to wake up for a change.”

Tendrils of shadowy magique wrapped around their hands and the blood underneath moved like a worm trying to escape the sunlight. She could feel the still-warm blood moving into the cut. She hissed in pain. Burning burrowed through her hand into every nerve. Her own magique tried to force it out of her and her core fought valiantly against the perceived intruder.

When people don't understand "write what you know" and think it means you have to write about things you personally have experienced/done, and therefore fantasy/sci-fi is out.
