Wut?
Shaheen: "We've heard from a number of our colleagues on the other side of the aisle that they're willing to come to the table, they're willing to work with us once the govt is open to get this done. We've heard the same thing from the White House. So now we'll see if they're really gonna work w/us"

I think this really is the theme of this year. Just a complete misunderstanding of the situation.
seems to me that those democrats inclined not to fight perceive themselves as living through a somewhat ordinary cycle of presidential overreach and backlash and not something much more significant and dangerous

There are some good points in here. The silver lining may be the blowback which could spark a little more courage.
Dem leadership has got to go, though. They are killing us.

I called for this with Kaine last night, but Brian is right that it holds true for King, Durbin and Fetterman too.
If I lived in Virginia, the second that Spanberger is sworn in as governor, I'd be demanding @kaine.senate.gov's resignation so she could replace him with someone who's actually aware of what is going on.

Sums it up
All the momentum from Tuesday's smashing of republicans, gone.
All the leverage dems had, gone.
All the pressure on republicans to give in to THE PEOPLE's demands, gone.
All my small vestige of remaining respect for the dem party, gone.
Thune is smiling. Republicans are laughing. WTG, dem IDIOTS! 🤬

This is absolutely right.

The eight who signed off on this disaster of a deal were acting as a shield for colleagues who are up this cycle. Don't let any of them off the hook just yet.
The coordinated nature of this—none are facing voters in 2026—means that either Schumer approved it or failed in his job as Senate Majority Leader to stop it.

Dems voting "no" get zero credit until they demand a change in leadership. Schumer out as Leader, Durbin out as Whip.

No. Just water
Cool milk applied to the afflicted areas will immediately bring relief from the burning and heat of pepper spray in the eyes and on the skin. The active is Capsicum oil. Applying water to the area makes things worse by spreading the stinging oil further. Diluted baby shampoo will wash it off too

These are the people who forged Electoral College vote certificates and tried to pass them off as real, right in front of the whole country.

Maybe the most insane crime of them all.
BREAKING:

Trump has just issued pardons to dozens of conservatives who tried to overturn the 2020 election results, including: Mark Meadows, Kenneth Chesebro, Jeffrey Clark, Rudy Giuliani, Sidney Powell, John Eastman, Boris Epshteyn, and more — per pardon attorney Ed Martin.

The answer to this very fair question is Dems need to be fund raising to distribute food outside the government. Create health care support systems, etc. Learn from how unions support striking workers. Whatever it takes.
I'm no fan of his but what is exactly is Schumer supposed to do when republicans are all terrorists who want to destroy the federal government?

Just keep people hungry and government workers unpaid until the midterms, meanwhile the ACA premiums go up anyway?

Your arguments make no sense

Maybe I’ll get in trouble for saying it but the Republican Party needs to cease to exist. It needs to be ripped out by the roots.
I am not saying all politics have to reflect my views, I’m saying that party is so corrupt, so polluted, so devoid of morality or sanity that it needs to be ended.
Remember when Trump said there would be people standing in bread lines trying to get food if Harris won?

It’s always projection.

There is probably not much more he wants in the world right now than to send out checks with his name on them.
He did it before.
Trump’s approval rating drops to a dismal 37%.

And his people treat him like one! Showering him with praise for achieving small things. Calling him special. Managing his tantrums with redirection or distraction. Shielding him from upsetting information.
Trump is like a toddler: time he spends asleep is to be prized, not resented. Every minute he sleeps is a minute he is not tantruming or breaking things or smearing his own shit on things.

Here's the basic pattern in Dem politics for the past few decades:
- Swoop in on a wave of disgust at the GOP
- Try to work with the GOP on crap policy
- Lose the next election when unenthusiastic Dem voters don't show up
- Misunderstand the loss, go MORE bipartisan
- Lose big to the GOP
- Repeat

The way I see it there are three possible paths you can take as a Dem in Congress.
1. Fight fascists every step of the way.
2. Be a coward, keep your head down, wait it out.
3. Give the GOP enough rope and hope voters will punish them.
(2 and 3 look similar but it depends on the intention)
It really wasn't that politically costly to call for Trump's removal on day one. Instead every single senator voted to make Marco Rubio Secretary of State and immediately started fast tracking all his nominees and his agenda like fucking cowards.

It’s very important to understand that whatever is in these files is going to run deep. And it won’t just be creepy rich men implicated. Epstein was moving a massive amount of money around and prominent figures in both parties, the business world and media would be exposed if it all comes out.
did no one in the garland DOJ look through the epstein files?

I’m trying not to let my general cynicism take over here, but I don’t get this. Why would you want any health care subsidies to expire AFTER the next election?
You want them extended either forever or maybe 6-9 months maximum. Am I missing something here?
SCHUMER is on the floor now making this offer to end the shutdown:

Clean CR
Bipartisan "minibus" of approps bills
1-year ACA funding extension
Bipartisan cmte to negotiate on health care

"This is a reasonable offer that reopens the government, deals with health care affordability."
