North Carolina folks - I was able to renew my passport online in 11 days (applied 8/18 & in my hands today.)
At the [redacted small town] DMV on Tues. 6:40am, there were +/- 50 people in line so I left. I now have an appt for Nov. 24 an hour+ away.
If you need unexpired ID now, passport FTW
